Brodeur Most Likely Out Against Hurricanes Tomorrow
As John noted in the recap, a 4-1 Devils win over the Habs, Marty tweaked his knee in the first period and left the game. The team is calling it a bruise, and Lemaire said he doesn't expect Marty to play tomorrow against the 8th place Canes. Depending on if the Devils call up a goalie (most likely Mike McKenna) on emergency basis, we'll get a better understanding of the severity of his injury. For now - It's Mooose!

The Whale!
Devils have been on a good tear offensively and Carolina is allowing over 3 goals a game.
On the flip side, in the new year, Carolina has been scoring over 3.3 goals a game. In the last 17 games, they’ve scored 4 or more goals 10 times! They’ve also been shutout twice.

WWTTD?
Lemaire said another goalie will be called up to back up Hedberg Tuesday.

With Frazee injured this has to mean McKenna, unless they sign Caruso or Lerg to NHL deals which has a 0.0000001% chance of happening. Hmm, maybe they can hammer out a quick deal with Clermont or Wedgewood to get them here on an emergency basis. (Yes, I’m kidding….or am i?)

i thought McKenna did well in his game during the Blues, back when the Blues were doing very well at the beginning of the season. Do you think they should start him over Hedberg?
let’s just pick up Emery off of waivers…. I joke, I joke.

The Ducks have signed him…. but they have to put him through waivers similar to Detroit placing Nabokov on waivers and St. Louis putting a couple of guys through as well.
There’s no good reason for the Devils to claim Emery. He’s not NHL-ready, at the moment, and probably needs 2-3 weeks in the AHL to play himself back into shape. He wouldn’t be prepared to back up Hedberg tomorrow night, and the rules would make it impossible for the Devils to trade him at the deadline, anyhow.
Now, if you tell me Detroit might take a flyer if he gets that far in the waiver process, I can buy that.
He wouldn’t be prepared to back up Hedberg tomorrow night,
How hard is it to sit on the bench?

Not hard at all. Also, it was complete sarcasm. that’s why I put "I joke, I joke ".

Words are meaningless? Words are powerful?
Knee: a joint in the middle part of the human leg that is the articulation between the femur, tibia, and patella; also : the part of the leg that includes this joint .
Injury: hurt, damage, or loss sustained.
Bruise: an injury involving rupture of small blood vessels and discoloration without a break in the overlying skin.
Tweak: to pinch and pull with a sudden jerk and twist.
Twinge: to affect with a sharp pain or pang.

Anyone else notice that the devils play the canes three times in 12 days? It seems like the devils have had games with the same teams close together alot i.e tampa bay and the flyers last month.

They have a six-game cluster next month where they play home-and-away with Ottawa, Atlanta, and the Islanders (two games against each). Just one of those schedule quirks. Here’s another amusing one: the Devils had three Saturday matinee games in Philadelphia this season. Home-and-home series are nothing new, either in the NHL or the NBA. Heck, there were pieces of schedule a few years ago where Western Conference teams would play consecutive games at the same location (generally two nights apart, e.g. Sunday and Tuesday), and once in a while they’d even follow that up with a game at the other team’s location. All to cut down travel, I suppose.
Last season, the Devils played the Maple Leafs three times in a week (Friday, Tuesday, Friday). The Devils won the first game, at which point the Leafs made the Phaneuf trade. The Leafs won the second game, and the Devils made the Kovalchuk trade.
Fantasy
So let me tell you about my fantasy team with Marty & Halak in goal and Malkin on forward. And I play my best friend this week. Hockey gods, what have I done?

Hmm…I am new to the fantasy hockey world…maybe you should pick up Marc Savard? How about Rick DiPietro? Wow…I think I am going to be really good at this fantasy team stuff. I am giving you pure gold here…take notes.

I assume you’re one of the many people with Paul Kariya and Matt Lombardi on their teams.

Oh I forgot
I have Kessel too. He’s like a hot & cold pack, but with an attitude.

My other goalies are Rask, who is being outshined by the season of Tim Thomas’ life, and Nittymaki, who is injured and being shown up by Niemi right now.
Time to pick up Hedberg I guess?
It could go either way I suppose. If I pick up Hedberg, either:
a) Brodeur will start playing amazingly and Hedberg won’t play for the remainder of the season
b) Hedberg will get injured immediately
Another fun fact: Last season I made a trade for Vokoun on my team, and the next game his own teammate bashed him in the head with his stick. All this after a Kovalchuk goal, too.
Hedberg is 9-7-2 with a 2.95 GAA and .905 sv%. I wouldn’t really worry about him against Carolina, but his 3.15 GAA and .892 sv% against Toronto might be a problem.
