More Green?
After reading how Martin Brodeur would like to see the Devils go green more often, I was wondering what the fans think. I personally would like to see one more game with the retro jersey. I think embracing the Christmas Tree Jersey would be fun and have it on the Toys for Tots night, then auction off the jerseys for the foundation. Going retro only twice a season would help preserve that special feel. I know Lou has said once is enough, but who ever thought we would even have one retro night?
Also, would anyone like to see the white retro jersey?
I included "More than 5" as an option because if Colorado can do this twelve times a year, anything is possible.

I think twice or thrice would be perfect. Once or twice around Christmas then another around St. Patty’s Day.

That’s a fantastic idea!!

Yes…and who ever wins Adam Mair’s jersey actually gets to take him home as well too. No really…it’s on us…enjoy.
I hope to join Claude Lemieux in Hell one day for a beer....
I voted for once but yet
I could easily change my mind for a white jersey retro night. Good idea on toys for tots. You should bring that up to one of the Devils Generals . . .
I have respect for most sports fans with 2 exceptions: NY Ranger fans who grew up in New Jersey, and Dallas Cowboy fans who can't name the capital of Texas.
Wear it for St. Patrick's Day. Not for Christmas.
Wear it for St. Patrick’s Day. Not for Christmas.
Neither holiday is practiced in any sense which resembles its own tradition, as both have been sacrificed upon the alter of corporatism. Further, many people do not recognize either day as meaningful, celebrate Christmas in January without that color scheme, or honor Yule.
So, the Devils should not play a role in advancing such pseudo-religiosity for the sake of gimmicky hockey. However, if the Devils wish to take advantage of the Christmas bonanza by marketing the red-green jerseys, I will not object. Everyone else is doing it.
At least on St. Patrick’s Day there is no pretense of religiosity anymore. Also, there exists a long tradition of Irish (Catholic) immigration in New Jersey, the US, and Canada. So, I respect the annual hoopla. Let the green-wearing continue and the green beer flow.
I note the Catholic tradition not because St. Patrick was Catholic, but because the Protestant tradition of Ireland and Northern Ireland (Ulster, Ulster Scots, etc.) is associated with the color orange. There are many Protestant Irish, Scots-Irish, etc., in the United States and Canada as well, and many of those folks arrived to these shores during the colonial era and before the mid-century Irish potato famine. In any case, St. Patrick is not someone to whom they tip their hat.
So, green for St. Patrick’s Day. Sure, why not. But if they didn’t, I wouldn’t care.
third jerseys
I’m ambivalent on the question of third jerseys, though I think a black version of their current design (with red shoulders) and horizontal stripe would be cool. Of course, I have such a jersey. I’m biased.
I’d be all over the Toys For Tots event. Rather it be a raffle with one ticket issued for each toy brought. I unload a few dozen toys at the local Marines drop every Christmas for the program, I certainly wouldn’t mind a fistful of raffle tix for some autographed game-worn greenies while still getting the goodies to the kids.
The question is not how far. The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as is needed? - Il Duce
Old School
I have had several green jersey’s over the years, and yet only one black one. Call me old school, but I was kind of upset when they changed to the black anyway, so I am extremely biased towards the green. At least the jersey’s didn’t go from black & yellow to sky blue & navy. What were they thinking?
Head shots are for the weak, a real man hits the body.
Since the devils are wearing the classic jersey tomorrow, will the capitals wear there classic jersey from the winter classic? Except they will have to wear a white helmet instead of red.

I don’t see why – it’s not their retro night. They’re just the visitors.

It would just have a more classic feel to the game.

I hate Philadelphia so much.
That would cool to do as well. Maybe do one game in the retro “home whites” and then in the reds.

i ment the NHL EA sports games
but sure. Devils use the standard ones to start the season..to turn the momentum bust out the oldies. I’d be into it for sure.

Call me a wet blanket, but I’m one of those people who thinks once-per-season is one time too many. One of the things I respect about the Devils is that they don’t have all these extra uniforms that they trot out constantly and try to market the bejesus out of.
Also, it’s nice to tune into a broadcast or a highlight reel and know what you’re going to see. Some teams have so many alternate, “classic”, what-have-you…. so many different uniforms that it gets to the point where you have to think for a moment to figure out who is who (especially if there’s no “FoxBox” on the broadcast).
I’m a simple, straightforward fan. I want to watch a game, not Fashion Week in Bryant Park. Then again, I’m also anti-luxury box, and while I love the new Prudential Center to pieces, I could absolutely do without all the restaurants and garbage designed to attract the uber-wealthy and make them think they’re sipping margaritas on the Riviera instead of attending a hockey game. Now get off of my lawn! =)
I think doing them one time each season is cool enough. No reasoning behind it really, just how I feel haha.
