As the Devils continue their push for a bid into the 2011 NHL playoffs, there is one team that can have a MAJOR impact on this run: the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers have already given the Devils some difficulty over this past week, losing games to the Maple Leafs, Sabres and just today, the Rangers. That's six more points added to a mountainous heap separating the Devils from the 8th and final playoff spot.
This leads me to four reasons why we Devils fans should be rooting for the Flyers to correct their recent skid in the month of March.
#1 - Thursday March 10th @ Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs are on a tear. They have 19 points in their last 15 games. Along with the Buffalo Sabres, they are the Devils biggest competition as far as teams on the outside looking in. The Devils will have to leap frog this team AS WELL as the team that occupies the 8th seed to get in. The Flyers winning in 3 periods would be helpful.
#2 - Saturday March 12th vs Atlanta Thrashers
#3 - Thursday March 17th @ Atlanta Thrashers
#4 - Thursday March 31st vs Atlanta Thrashers
That's right, our division rivals have THREE games against the team directly above the Devils in the standings this month. This is very important to the Devils as they also play the Thrashers twice in this month. That makes five games that could seriously hinder the Devils hopes at a playoff run.
Hopefully the Flyers can get it in gear and start taking some big points away from the Devils competition. Go Bullies!
