The New Jersey Devils cannot host a Winter Classic in 2012 because the N.F.L. has scheduled Giants v. Cowboys on New Years Day at the New Meadowlands Stadium.
The schedules were released in mid-April and, despite the N.F.L. lockout, the NHL cannot play a game if the venue is already booked.
For those hoping for a New York Winter Classic at Yankee Stadium, the stadium is also booked for that day for 3 more years (Pinstripe Bowl).
