Thought the Coyotes had serious interest in Viktor Fasth, the soon-to-be 29-year-old Swedish goaltender who was MVP of the world championship. But it's hard to see them going with a combo of Fasth and Jason LaBarbera. More likely: they ask the Bruins about Tuukka Rask or the Canucks about Cory Schneider. Neither will come cheap.
I mainly posted this out of interest- Friedman mentions that Tuukka Rask, who was the Bruins starting goaltender coming into this season could be shopped. Rask is currently Tim Thomas' backup, and unless Thomas gets hurt, Rask will still be his backup. Considering that Marty's had injury problems and the Devils need a backup goalie and a potential goalie for the future. Rask could also give the Devils some time for Wedgewood, Kincaid and Clermont to develop.

I dont think it will happen,
but I wouldnt argue to see Rask in a Devils jersey. He would be expensive though and I dont see it happening with the number of prospects in the system. Why get a good young goalie only to replace him as soon as a prospect is ready?
I think Corey Schneider could be a possibility, if Phoenix is willing to meet Vancouver’s asking price. It’ll be high, but I imagine the Canucks might be open to dealing Schneider considering they are locked into Luongo for another decade. In addition, if Vancouver can bring back some inexpensive talent to add to their lineup, it will alleviate what looks to be the possibility of a cap crunch. Per CapGeek, Vancouver has a number of roster spots to fill out and not a ton of cash for the volume of openings.
As for Tuuka Rask, I can’t see why Boston would trade him unless they are blown away by an offer. The Bruins do not have the same cap pressures, Rask is relatively inexpensive, and he might be the successor “waiting in the wings” for the post-Thomas era. Considering Tim Thomas is 37, and considering how Thomas has been a little up-and-down over the past few years, having a “Plan B” couldn’t hurt.
….
I like Elliote Friedman, and I respect his journalistic work. However, considering everything else that has been said about Fasth and his situation, and what he’d be looking for, I can’t see why he’d be very interested in Phoenix. They don’t seem to meet his criteria, which includes being the understudy for next season and a team with a real chance to win. I don’t think the Coyotes can offer either.
While I like the idea of having Rask as a nice insurance policy and even possibly a future solution in net, I just don’t think the Devils will have the room under the cap to make it happen. Lou would have to move multiple albatross contracts to make it happen and I’m just not so sure it’s possible.
Status quo.
