Alex Vasyunov is going back to the KHL
Via Puck Daddy's Dmitry Chesnokov, Vasyunov will be going back to his KHL club Lokomotiv rather than staying with the Devils. He's a restricted free agent according to Capgeek- so i'm not too sure how this will work out.

Without looking at the CBA I would think they would need to tender him a qualfying offer by Monday to retain his rights.

They would. Vasyunov doesn’t have to do anything, the Devils just need to give the offer to maintain rights.

For a second I was surprised that Lamoriello didn’t know about this, but then I remembered he is busy with finding a coach, talking to Andy Greene’s agent, etc.

a small guy named Parise too, I don’t think losing Vasyunov is a big deal, we have a ton of guys under contract and he didn’t look all that impressive at the AHL or NHL level.
Usually you talk to your boss before you quit, though. News travels fast these days, I guess he just didn’t get the chance to, with Lou at the board of governors meeting and now in Minnesota.
whats he doing in Minnesota, he should be on Zach Parise’s back porch sipping on some lemonade and crunching some numbers
Zach is from Minnesota. I dont know if he is there at the moment, but I believe that was the reason behind saying Lou was in Minnesota.

Draft’s on Friday and that’s where it is being held. Likely having last interviews, workouts, and decisions with scouts.

Yeah on the NHL network they have a show called “Oil Change” where they go behind the scenes and in the first episode it showed the entire draft process of a team which was cool. They debated the last three days before the draft and only in the morning finally decided they would pick Taylor Hall. That was eye opening for sure.
vasyunov was a bottom 6 type of guy he had some offensive upside potential but its not like he was going to be our next big star a huge impact player im ok with this
I’m a pro-Russian minded hockey fan, but I won’t miss Vasyunov, no sir.
KHL is where he belongs, Sascha’s made the good choice imo.

Why are guys named Alexander always nicknamed sascha?

As opposed to Steve or Jimmy?

Sascha’s just a diminutive (affective) for Alexander in Eastern Europe… Like Katyusha with Ekaterina.

Yeah but Katyusha and Ekaterina have the letters K-A-T in common. Alexander and Sascha have….just A in common.
By that token, why is Bob okay for Robert? Or Chuck for Charles? Or Dick for Richard? Or dipping into Spanish, why is Paco short for Francisco?
There’s probably an etymology for all of them and even though they don’t make immediate (or, perhaps any) sense, it is what it is.
