With Winnipeg obviously not going to play in the Southeastern Division for the rest of their lifetime, realignment is all but definite. I've been reading some scenarios today and I wanted to share some and see what your thoughts on what should happen. My biggest concern is that the realignment is going to split up one of the two "main" rivalries the Devils have: Devils vs Flyers or Devils vs Rangers. It is going to be interesting to see how the league handles this...
So, here are some ideas that I have come across in my quick research (Google) about what possible new divisions could look like. ESPN reported that the realignment will be "dramatic" and plans have shown four divisions in the league. (http://es.pn/iMaWMw). That is the basis on the two examples I have seen.
1. Rivalries intact (my personal favorite)
Northeast - BUF, BOS, OTT, TOR, MTL, DET, PIT
Atlantic - NJD, NYR, NYI, PHI, CAR, WSH, TBL, FLA
Central - WPG, MIN, CHI, CBJ, NSH, STL, DAL
Pacific - CGY, EDM, VAN, SJS, LAK, ANA, PHX, COL
2. Devils - Rangers intact
Northeast - NJD, NYR, NYI, BUF, BOS, OTT, TOR, MTL
Atlantic - CAR, CBJ, FLA, PHI, PIT, TBL, WSH
Central - CHI, DAL, DET, MIN, NSH, STL, WPG
Pacific - ANA, CGY, COL, EDM, LAK, PHX, SJS, VAN
So that is what I have seen so far. What are your thoughts?
