Devils avoid arbitration and resign Mark Fraser to 1-Year Deal at $550,000
Editor's Note: Front paged because, well, this means there's only one free agent left for the Devils to re-sign. Gulitti is still figuring out if it's one-way or two-way. Update: Gulitti found out it's a one-way deal for $550,000.

I think just about everyone on this site will have the same feeling… I know I jumped a little when I saw the words “avoid arbitration”

yea I went as far as reading avoid arbitration and then jumped quickly to the name and saw the r, a, s, e in fraser real quick… I had a great moment for a second there
Yeah seriously, that has to be the worst headline I have ever seen on this site :) How could you do that to us? Every. Single. Fan will read the first words and think, "Holy cow! The re-signed Pari….awwwwwwwwww no!

I’m guessing it’s a one way deal, which means… what exactly? That he plays in Albany and ONLY Albany all year? That a trade is imminent? That our suspicions about Salvador not playing in NJ this year are closer to being confirmed?
One-way would mean Fraser’s getting $550,000 regardless of where he plays. I’m not up on my waiver rules to see whether that’s a concern.
Anyway – because Fraser filed for arbitration, he’d get a one-year deal out of the hearing anyway. So his gambit of having it draw the Devils to make a deal sooner worked – again.

they’re not going to sign him one-way if they intend to put him in albany, because that would put him in albany all year, probably.
salvador cannot play in NJ.
fraser makes for a perfect 7th D because he has no potential and he’s an okay player. he could be dealt, but i think he’s useful as a 40 game, back pairing D.

I don’t see how it could possibly be a two-way deal. If he was willing to accept a two-way deal for league minimum salary, what would he possibly be trying to get from arbitration? A league minimum two-way deal is literally the worst possible contract you can get.
If he was willing to sign a two-way league minimum deal, then what other thing could possibly have held up negotiations? As far as I can tell, the only other possible element besides those two is a NMC or NTC, and I sincerely doubt that Mark Fraser was demanding that. Then again…would anybody be surprised if Lou gave an unnecessary player a NMC or NTC? Sadly enough, he has a history of making shockingly poor decisions when it comes to NTCs and NMCs.
Maybe we should find out what it is first before jumping to conclusions.

But what else could it be based on what I said? I’m not asking that rhetorically. I’m genuinely wondering if there’s something I’m leaving out or forgetting.
