It seems like Zach’s feelings mirror those of many of us at ILWT. Optimistic/hopeful that a deal will get done, but still nervous with the arbitration date looming so closely. It just seems that there is no way that a deal doesn’t get done at this point, though (at least in my honest opinion).
However, Lamoriello also told The Record on Thursday that he’s not sure if he is any more optimistic now about getting a deal done with Parise prior to the arbitration hearing.
Classic Lou. He’ll still be playing coy with reporters when he on his death bed someday.
Status quo.
It seems like Parise is saying a whole lot more than that. Look at these quotes (emphasis added):
But, Parise wants to be a Devil for longer than just one season, and he wants to be paid properly, especially considering he’s potentially one year away from being an unrestricted free agent.
And, yes, Parise has done his homework and he has a pretty good idea of what he wants and what he’s worth.
Followed by the real doozy:
“That’s how negotiating works and that’s how contracts are figured out — you look at what has happened around the League,” Parise said. “So, of course, I have been looking and my agents have been looking at different things that have happened this summer. You have to be aware of what is going on and the numbers for different players that are your comparables.”
After such deafening silence from both sides over the course of the last few months, this is practically the equivalent of a juicy CIA document dump. Parise appears to be saying that he feels like Lou has been lowballing him and the whole issue comes down to the fact that he and Lou haven’t come to an agreement about his price.
Well if they agreed on price, the contract would already be signed, so I don’t think it’s necessarily groundbreaking. The arbitration date will eventually cause a compromise to happen.
Zach certainly knows what he’s worth, so Lou won’t be putting one over on him anytime soon. I still think a deal gets done, regardless. Lou just opened up a bunch of cap space, and we’ve seen how quickly things get done as these arbitration deadlines approach.
Status quo.
I took the exact opposite from the comments good Dr, funny how different perspectives can lead to opposing opinions.
Really? It is funny. Well I hope your interpretation is correct!

That was a good interview. He seems pretty on the ball. I think based on that interview Parise is well aware of how the business works and I don’t believe for a second he has animosity toward the team/lou for this deal coming down to the last minute or even arbitration.
“You know what it is, it’s a pretty unique situation and I don’t know,”
He might have well just said. “I was injured all last season, so Its making the negotiations harder”
Anyway. This was good.
