Devils Records
I just want to post some of the Devils team records and see which ones you guys felt could possibly be broken this year. I copied this from Wikipedia.
- Most goals in a season: Brian Gionta, 48 (2005–06)
- Most assists in a season: Scott Stevens, 60 (1993–94)
- Most points in a season: Patrik Elias, 96 (40 G, 56 A) (2000–01)
- Most penalty minutes in a season: Krzysztof Oliwa, 295 (1997–98)
- Most points in a season by a defenseman: Scott Stevens, 78 (1993–94)
- Most points in a season by a rookie: Scott Gomez, 70 (1999–2000)
- Most wins in a season: Martin Brodeur, 48 (2006–07) (also the NHL record)
- Most shutouts in a season: Martin Brodeur, 12 (2006–07)
- Most power play goals in a season: Brian Gionta, 24 (2005–06)
- Most goals in a playoff season: Claude Lemieux, 13 (1995)
- Most goals by a defenseman in a playoff season: Brian Rafalski, 7 (2001)
- Most assists in a playoff season: Scott Niedermayer, 16 (2003)
- Most points in a single playoff game: Patrik Sundström, 8 (3 G,5 A) (April 22, 1988) (also the NHL record)
- Most points in a playoff season: Patrik Elias, 23 (9 G,14 A) (2001)
- Most points by a defenseman in a playoff season: Brian Rafalski and Scott Niedermayer, 18 (2001, 2003)
- Most penalty minutes in a playoff season: Perry Anderson, 113 (1988)
- Most points in a season: 111 (2000–01)
- Most wins in a season: 51 (2008–09)
- Longest season-ending win streak: 11 (2005–06)[
Personally I think the record that is most likely to be broken is penalty minutes by Cam Janssen. If he plays like he did in 2009-2010, he could reach close to 400 penalty minutes. All kidding aside, I think the single season goal record and assist record could fall as long as everyone stays healthy. Theres no reason to think kovy or zach cant reach fifty. Its also possible that zajac could eclipse 60 assists centering the top line and powerplay unit with those types of players on his wings.
What do you guys think?

Not happening. Janssen is going to be at Albany, with Eric Boulton your designated “tough guy” for when a fight is required. Even Boulton doesn’t have a chance at this one, because the Devils don’t drop the gloves that frequently as a matter of course, and because the NHL doesn’t fight quite as frequently as they did a generation ago.
Fun Facts™:
- In 2010-2011, there was one player with more than 295 PIMs — Zenon Konopka of the Isles had 307.
- Before last season, the most recent player to exceed 295 PIMs was Phoenix winger Daniel Carcillo, with 324 in 2007-2008.
- Before that, the previous player to exceed 295 PIMs was Florida winger Peter Worrell, with 354 PIMs in 2001-2002.
- The last time two or more players reached or surpassed 295 PIMs was 1997-1998. Oliwa had 295 that season, which ranked third in the NHL. Tie Domi of Toronto accumulated 365, and Vancouver’s Donald Brashear led the League with 372.
It’s plausible that someone in the NHL could reach 300 PIMs this season, but the trend has been away from such lofty numbers in the last decade. Personally, I think Oliwa’s franchise mark is going to stand for a very long time, far longer than the offensive marks for defensemen that seem to be completely out of reach considering the group we have.
If I’m picking a record that is “most likely to be broken this season”, I’d look at Claude Lemieux’s 13 goals in the 1995 playoffs. If the Devils were to make a deep playoff run, Ilya Kovalchuk is the type of guy who could get scorching hot and score enough goals in a single series to put 13 in striking distance over three or four series of games.
he could pot 20 in 4 rounds. I feel like rather than defenses solving him, hell solve the defenses with many games against the same team.
No one has ever scored 20 in the playoffs. 15 has only been cracked 20 times, and only Crosby’s done it since 1996.

To be completely fair, the playoffs didn’t expand to its current format of four rounds until 1980. There are players who might have been able to score 15+ goals before then who simply didn’t have the quantity of games in which to do so.
I’m not meaning to argue either side based on this factoid. Just that expansion of the schedule means more opportunity to accumulate stats.
Parise is going to play like a beast this year as long as he’s close to 100%. He’s probably the most gifted offensive player the Devils have ever had besides Kovalchuk, and he’s in the contract year before getting a huge salary upgrade in the prime of his career. Expect him to score at least 40 goals if he’s healthy.

Hopefully all of them!
That would bode well

Funny
John Maclean holds the Devils record for most team goals but holds none of these records. I’m gonna guess Parise and maybe even Kovy will shatter his records.
