Well let's start off with this depending on how the above mentioned players play determines how well this team does. It really comes down to them to provide a huge chunk of the offense with Elias, Tedenby, Josefson and all the other forwards doing the rest. I'm doubting this but if the above mentioned don't play well (or as well as they should) it's going to be a long season again.
Kovalchuk- He's gotta really light the lamp this year. Quite frankly this team being as defensive minded as it is struggles to score goals. He really needs to put up big offensive numbers or this team will struggle. I have no doubt though that he can do it, it's more a matter of will he. I think Kovalchuk needs to average close to a point per game if not that for this team to win. He's in the prime of his career right now and hopefully he has a huge rebound from last year.
Parise- He's 100% back from his injury, and better be ready to play some hockey. I think Parise is going to struggle a bit in the first part of the season about 15-25 games just from being rusty. I know they play pre season hockey but it's really incomparable pre season and regular season. Adjusting to game speed will be difficult but he can do it. Zach is also going to have to garner around 75 points for this team to be back to it's old self (You know like 2009-2010 old self not 2010-2011 old self). I think though we should be patient with Zach for the first 15 games or so because missing practically a full season is really hard to come back and be fully adjusted from.
Zajac- Well Parise won't be the only one coming back from an injury this season as Zajac will be coming back from one too. Zajac's numbers can only improve with Parise back on his line. Hopefully though Parise will be back to game speed and his old self by the time Zajac gets back so it's only easier for Zajac to get back into it. It's definitely going to be harder for Zajac to adjust because he won't have the benefit of training camp and pre season. I don't know exactly how many games Zajac will play this year but people are saying he'll be back by November 11th against the Caps. So he would miss 9 games give or take a couple. That being said, I would like to see his numbers around 60 points for the year. If he were to play around 72-75 games 58 or more points would be a successful year with no pre season or anything.
Those 3 really are the key this year for the Devils. Looking back I should have put Elias but he's been really steady every year he's been with the club so I didn't bother. I also hope that this isn't the year where Elias starts declining due to age, as that can be pretty detrimental to the club.
