The Caps are wearing their throwback jerseys at the Rock? I can only see that making sense if we wear our own retro jerseys. Why else would you waste the opportunity to sell more jerseys by doing this at an away game?
I loved Sykora his first stint as a Devil, otherwise I never would have bothered to get his jersey back in the day. But one good scrimmage does not atone for a few years of futility in not only the NHL but Europe as well, especially when he’ll be turning 35 in two-months’ time. Maybe this will be the propel him to another chance at making the roster, and if so, I don’t see him performing better than 10-15-25, and I fear even that is a stretch.
So this is what it's like to be an Islanders fan...
The Caps are wearing those jerseys 16 times this season
I don;t think the Devils will wear their throwbacks aside from March 17.

December 23rd is a Friday night game and the Devils last game before the Christmas break. I could imagine the Devils turning their St. Patrick’s day promotion into a twice-a-year promotion for Christmas and St. Patrick’s (since the colors of the Devils throwback jersey would fit well with both holidays). Doing so could give the Devils another sellout game, against a non-division rival. I know Lou is a minimalist when it comes to these things, but the team obviously could stand to sellout the Rock a few more times in a season. I think if he sticks to Christmas and St. Patrick’s then the gesture still has a lot of meaning and will create a special atmosphere in the arena for those holidays.
If Sykora makes the team I think he’ll have a huge impact, but that’s a big if. The reason I say so is because in order for him to make the team he would have to prove he can still play as a top six forward in the NHL. We have an abundance of bottom six players at the center and right wing position. If Sykora can’t be a top six forward I’d rather see Henrique and Josefson get time playing center in the NHL while you still have Steckel and Pelley to center and guys like Zharkov, Clarkson, Jannsen and Boulton to play wing.
So while I think there’s still a big IF regarding Sykora’s chances of making the squad, he would need to be really impressive to do so.
Just out of curiosity, when are the pod casts starting back up?
