* - Number may be slightly over-exaggerated
Travis Zajac - Left Achilies - This is the most significant injury to the Devils and it happened before training camp even started. Around mid-August, it was reported that Zajac suffered a torn left Achilles tendon during off-season workouts in Minnesota. It wasn't a rupture and he had successful surgery a few days later. John put up a post on how severe this loss is and listed the options on who should replace the number one center. His timetable was initially three months (which would be mid-November). Yet, around September 9th, Zach Parise came out and said it could even be longer than that - one to three months longer to be exact. Zajac spoke to Gulitti shortly after the report came out and it's possible that he could be sideline for up to six months (from when the injury occurred). It depends on the rehabilitation and his progression. He's an athlete, and holds the Devils Iron Man record - so let's hope those years of staying healthy and treating his body right will speed his recover. Now that training camp has started, its known Elias will take the number one center role and Jacob Josefson will have an opportunity on the 2nd line - he has already showed he can mesh with Ilya Kovalchuk.
Martin Brodeur - Hamstring - Marty was sidelined for a few days in the beginning of the week due to what was initially a "lower-body" issue. He was supposed to play in Monday's scrimmage, but sat out and rested. No worries - it was just his hamstring. He's supposedly getting the nod tomorrow night at the Rock against the Rags.
Dainius Zubrus - Lower Body - Zubie was on the ice for Wednesday practice, but left early. He's not practicing today either with that the team is calling "lower-body stiffness." That was the same thing they said about Marty so it could be his hamstring as well. It's just a precaution that he's sitting and he should be back soon.
Bryce Salvador also didn't participate in the scrimmage with a lower body problem, but he's back at practice. Gulitti tweeted today it was his groin.
As for players who were out significantly last season? Salvador is 100% healthy after his cochlear concussion last season. Matt Taormina was out with an ankle injury last season as well, he's 100% and ready to fight for a spot in training camp. Let's not forget Parise either. He's 100% as well and looked very good in the preseason game last night.
As I said, aside from Zajac, all the injuries sustained during training camp are very minor. Currently, only Zubrus is being held out of practice and it seems rest is the only remedy.
