ive worked at gamestop for 3 and a half years and i dont know why, but ea sports hates marty brodeur. granted he had a down year last year, but in the previous 3 entries, if you would sim the whole year, hed always be one of the worst goalies in the league, even though his rating was one of the highest.
im glad to see the players ratings are more balanced, but i heard the progression is retarded and if you play be a gm, by year 3 most teams have a 100 rating in at least one category. when i say more balance i mean easier to play a franchise mode with. for example, last year tedenby was a 68 and josefson was a 69 and both had a b- for potential. it was impossible to get them at a level where they could be good in the nhl. im glad to see their levels are up.
i heard the trade logic still doesnt work, but that doesnt bother me too much. im always looking for new people to play with so if your on xbox live send me a message. my username is the same as the one i use on here :)
also wanted to say dont be mad about patys rating. he was an 85 in 2011, so hes only down 1 point overall.

Yeah but how could he lose one point from last year, he was the point leader for the team.

The nhl series has always factored age a little too much when giving a rating. If your doing franchise mode, once someone hits 35 or 36 years old, their rating shoots down. Its unfair in some cases, but its part of the game design.

consider us facing off as soon as the game hits stores :) I’m always down for an ILWT team as well!

Very true point. The progression of players and their stats seems very fabricated in the game, rather than an organic (and somewhat random) growth that you get from say the Championship Manager series of football games.
That debate is for another day I guess.
I’ll still be trading for Phil Kessel again in franchise mode; why he’s such a beast in-game I’ll never understand.
Ireland? An Ice Hockey Team?
You'd better believe it...
I don’t like how the overall ratings work. It makes Boulton and Janssen look to be about as valuable as Palmieri, Tedenby, Josefson, and half the defense. Both goalies seem too low, as does Elias. Didn’t people say that Hedberg was one of the best backups in the league? /shrug
Yeah but if you look at the player profile boulton will be like 90 in fighting and hitting and 70 in everything else. The overall rating doesn’t determine how good a player is at everything, its an average of all the individual categories

I know, which is why I think the “overall rating” system is heavily flawed. It should, perhaps, be an average of the stats that have to do with the position they play instead of how well they drop the gloves. Having a 90 in fighting wouldn’t factor in to it at all and their ratings would better reflect their true worth.
I think the whole rating system needs to be revamped. EA should hire a large team of scouts, and have a system that is similar to the football games they make. In those games, every little thing has a rating. For instance, there are different ratings for a players run block strength, run block footwork, pass block strength, and pass block footwork. That sort of thing would be good in the hockey games, it would allow for each player to be truer to their real life counter part, as well as allow for differences in each player that are above what they are now. As the game currently stands, most North American Established NHL caliber players have defensive awareness 75-80 and checking 75-80. That just isn’t true if you were to do detailed scouting reports on every player and asked each scout to give the player a number grade on each skill based on a 1-100 scale.

In my created team, I have a homeless man who plays defense – he is a 74 rating. He has zero defensive awareness and maximum offensive awareness, next to no discipline and 95 in checking….after 3 years of the franchise he has become the team’s captain. How does that happen? Not only is he the best defender on the team (ZERO defensive awareness?) but he is always third or fourth in scoring every year. It’s just not reasonable.
Also, why is he homeless after I signed him to a 4 year -15 million dollar contract? So many questions…so few answers, EA Sports.

Where’s the source for this information? The game hasn’t come out yet.
More importantly, why is this written like this? What’s wrong with sentences and proper capitalization? Why do I feel like this won’t stay up unless it’s re-written?

OtF has links up. It takes you to two videos, each of a player scrolling through the players/teams (respectively).

BOTH OF THEM!!
speaking about those jerseys…does anyone know a website where I can buy the white version?
I have a red one with Parise on it, I want to buy a white one and get Kovalchuk on it.
http://www.operationsports.com/news/508004/nhl-12-player-ratings/
it still has White and Rolston on the Devils?

For the 2nd year in a row, the have Corrente’s picture for Halischuk. I’d bet money that the play by play call for anyone named Benoit is still Bergfors. They claim they make all these changes to the game, but they can’t make ones that would LITERALLY TAKE 60 SECONDS.

Still no picture for Fayne or Tedenby, yet they update Mair to have a Devils uniform… Maybe I’m nit picking on small stuff that doesn’t matter, but this screams half-assery to me.

Tedenby

Fayne
I just went to the Devils web site and got those. Took me a total of 90 seconds. Honestly, there is no excuse for not having pictures of guys who played in the NHL last year, the teams take all kinds of pictures for the game programs and media guides. That should have been somebodies job to make sure that the pictures are all up to date and correct. How can you expect me to pay $60 for a game and they can’t even bother to update the media files. I bet the PA announcer won’t be able to say their names when they score either.

EA has little incentive to put a lot of effort into the game. At the present time, there’s no competition on the market for hockey video games, so you’re obliged to buy their product if you want a new hockey video game.
It sucks they have a lock on sports games. I was all about nhl2k games but then they stopped making it for ps3 last year, and this year they stopped all together.

I would love for EA to get rights to the NCAA Hockey and have the major conferences in the game, that kind of addition would be worth $60 for a new game. But that probably wouldn’t happen.

Does anyone else ever notice on all of the enforcers in the game, they all have pretty high stick checking?
Hopefully Tedenby’s speed is higher than 70 this year.
Wow the game is great, it kinda sucks that rosters aren’t up to date at all. Not to be insensitive or offensive but I have Wade Belak on the devils for season mode. Roslton and White are still on the devils as well.

Are your rosters up to date? Because mine aren’t at all, White and Rolston are still on the team, as well as Zajac.

I just did the moves manually. I haven’t played all that long. Is there a roster update online?

Yup
The roster update is as of 9/12. Its accurate for any potential NHL roster players, a few AHL players are missing though.
There is also an issue where a player does not appear in the contract screen and cannot be called up to the NHL but can be placed on a line on the AHL team. None of those players are NHL worthy and do not count against the 50 man limit.
