The Devils need a good checking line with just a little bit of offensive skill. A good shut down line like we had with Madden and Pandolfo. The Elias line has been having a tough time going against the oppositions best. the bottom lines havn’t done squat anyway . I think this would take some pressure off of some of our old timers. anyone else missing a good checking line besides me?

The three also rank in the top 5 on the team under the same circumstances in GFON/60 and GAON/60 and are 1, 5 and 6 on the team in total points.
I think they’re doing just fine.
That’s cool.
It’s my opinion, backed up by statistics uninfluenced by confirmation bias, that your opinion is wrong.
And you misspelled ‘mean’.
You posted your opinion on a public forum which, believe it or not, opens oneself up to being disagreed with and having others voice opposing opinions.
I’m truly heartbroken that you don’t always agree with my comments, but you’re still wrong.
If you want to make a case that the team would be better with a true checking line, that’s cool, I’m sure you probably wouldn’t be alone in that school of thought. I don’t necessarily agree, but that’s quite different than saying the Elias line is having a tough time and then dismissing contrary evidence because it doesn’t agree with your eyes.

The Elias line have struggled in some recent games, but over this whole season they’ve been good and winning match ups. The on-ice Corsi shows that. Also, I don’t think a traditional checking line would get as much success because the Elias line has offensive skill.
Devils in my heart! Devils in my mind! Devils in my eyes! Devils until I die!

The problem isn’t the lack of a checking line, its the lack of a fourth line capable of playing any significant time. Its a collection of placeholders should a fight be deemed necessary, and don’t contribute much more than that. Palms and Zharkov with a half-capable center that could eat 8-10 minutes a game would do wonders for the top lines in terms of energy. But hey, Cam Jannsen!
And there’s nothing wrong with the Elias line. They are playing very very well positionally and possession-wise. That’s what advanced stats are for. When you watch your steady workhorse shutdown crew do their job, it is rarely exciting and therefore does not really make a memorable impact unless something out of the ordinary happens. Unfortunately for them, that means a breakdown and something bad happening.
I’m not going to lie to you. It felt good and I’m going to do whatever is in my power possible to stay there as long as I can. - Petr Sykora on playing on a line with Elias and Parise.
I say you"re still asking too much from the older guys.I think we need some young blood on a good checking line to keep up with the oppositions 1st line. A good shut down line. And then 3 offensively skilled lines. But that’s just my oppinion.
Steve S.
Henrique and Larsson are going to Ottawa but that’s it. Hard to believe that Kovy, Zach or Patty isn’t good enough.

I get what the league is trying to do with the fan balloting, but that’s just crap. Hard to get Devils representation (not to mention the potential #1 FA next summer) when few people outside of NJ like/care to watch the Devils.

thats a stupid excuse because if those players actually got some media attention it would bring more people to be interested in our team.

I’m not complaining about the players who are going, i’m complaining about the players who aren’t. Elias even made the team last year when the Devils were horrible.

I’m not saying your excuse, i’m more implying that thats the leagues excuse.

Elias made the all star because he was keeping the team somewhat afloat last season

Elias made the All-Star Game last year because League rules stipulate that every team have a representitive to the weekend, deserving or no. Had there been a rookie on the club suitable enough to suit up for the Skills Competitions, he would have been taken in lieu of Elias going.
Last year it came down to Elias or Kovalchuk, and the Grand Poobahs chose old #26.
You know what, I agree with the sentiment completely that any one or two of Zach / Patty / Kovy or even Henrique could have reasonably been chosen. Once i got over my inital "we got slighted…again " feelings, my next thought was let our guys take a week to relax and rest while teams we are competing with , such as Ottawa, has 4 of their best players playing in a meaningless game where they will certainly feel the need to impress the home crowd.

And im pretty confident the Devils rookies will be featured and played up . Henrique is currently the #1 rookie on TSN, just having passed Nugent Hopkins. He is pretty much garnering universal praise around the league. So the kids can carry the torch while the old timers rest. Its a win win.

Is it clear yet whether Henrique and Larsson will play in the game itself or just the skills competition?
by rtrstevec on Jan 12, 2012 3:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Right now, they’re simply part of the “Fantasy Draft” and the skills competitions.
Based on precedent from last season, Henrique could very easily be the “next guy up” for the game itself if another forward pulls out due to injury/whatever…. for example, if Pittsburgh asks James Neal to not participate as to rest his broken foot.
Henrique could be the extra variable that might keep parise to want to stay.

I think its pretty clear from their on the ice chemistry, Zach’s body language and demeanor, and of course, results, that Parise loves working with the kid. #1 PowerKill Tandem.
