Zach Parise A Red Wing Next Year?
Jim Matheson of the Edmonton journal speculates the Red Wings would like Parise. They can sign Zach for 5 years at a $8.25 million cap hit.
While that's all nice and dandy don't you think it's a bit out of character for the Wings to try to do that? The Red Wings are sadly a perfect fit for Zach. They're a contender and have plenty of money. I see in my head Datsyuk extending his career into his 40's centering Zetterberg and Parise.
The Wings are in the running if Zach makes it to July 1st without a contract. Another thing is I have a feeling Lou would know by the 2012 NHL Entry Draft if Zach will sign or not. Then I think Lou may ship him out at the draft. I can't possibly see the Wings dealing for him at the draft.

A) Is there a link to this speculation?
B) I agree with devilssan2, I don’t know if it’s worth posting each one individually.

the Red Wings would like Parise
I would need two extra pairs of hands to have enough fingers to count how many teams would like to have Parise on their roster.
$ 8.25 Millions cap-hit ? It’s too much

I agree. Pavel Datsyuk is the highest paid player in Detroit with a $6.7M cap hit. I can’t imagine anyone thinks Parise is $1.5M-per-season better than Datsyuk, because he isn’t.

"League Takeover" Impact
If all the rumors are true and the league could take the team over in the next few months, will they even allow us to sign our captain to a long term deal at a big cap hit if they’re in charge?
Sadly, I think Detroit would be a great fit for Zach for a lot of reasons. He might even give them a “kinda close to home” discount to compete for a cup every year.
I hope I’m wrong.
isn’t there at least one other team that the League has been threatening to take over that is in worse shape, with tons of supporting admission/evidence? I’m not worried about the League taking over. If it gets that far, I would expect there to be almost reasonably priced Wendy’s available in the Rock before the League hijacks the team.

If I gave a lot of credence to the rumors published in rags, I’d have a subscription to the Enquirer.

Where theres smoke, theres fire…
I think there is some truth to Jersey’s financial problems and it may eventually have to lead to an NHL takeover. Its certainly something to consider and discuss — maybe someone can even make a fanpost about this situation and Parise —even if the Devils’ management refuses to do so.

Lets see how good Detroit looks after Nick Lidstrom retires, because they wont be nearly as good without adding another significant piece to their defense.

I speculate Zach will be in the NHL next season
And hopefully in Devils red & black.
The Devils have won more titles than all Philly pro sports teams combined in the last 25 years

I heard the California Cookie Monsters would sign Zach for $10 million per year and move him to center.
This dude Jim who is homeless told me. It’s legit though.

Hey, better post that to Twitter before Paul Bissonnette gets to it first!
I love that guy.

How much do you think getting to play in the Winter Classic goes into Parise’s thinking? No, but seriously . . .
I have respect for most sports fans with 2 exceptions: NY Ranger fans who grew up in New Jersey, and Dallas Cowboy fans who can't name the capital of Texas.
If that’s a factor that even slightly determines where he signs, GOOD RIDDANCE

Ben/Stan
That’s a good summary of Parise’s concerns. The Benjamins and the Stanley Cup.
Are the Red Wings able to provide promises of Ben & hopes for Stan any more than the Devils at this point? Perhaps yes on both counts, and in “Hockeytown” with a vocal, passionate crowd.
Even though Joe Louis Arena is as old and cruddy as was Brendan Byrne/ Continental/ Izod… and Detroit itself has socio-economic problems which dwarf even Newark’s problems… Detroit might be an attractive hockey franchise in this era, the Bowman-Devellano-Holland-Babcock era.
Attractive… but with several aging stars and a Devilish way of finishing high in the standings but flunking in the Playoffs (approx 4-5 season gap between SCs in 1998-2002 then 2002-2008, including Pens-RW loss).
Acasser already did a bang-up job describing the Devs last year as being like that fluke Flyers season circa 2006. So, it seems the Devs are definitely returning to more familiar territory.
Are the Red Wings really so much closer to another SC than the Devils, Flyers, Penguins, or Blackhawks? Or even, the Rangers (can’t really compare them to the others but they deserve a mention and, immediately, a scoff).

To whit:
Here are the Red Wings seasons:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Detroit_Red_Wings_seasons
They, too, have won the Division and then gotten bounced in the first round. Or second round. Sometimes handily, 4-1.
Side note: Remember, the Devils had really bad luck in ‘08 to have met the Flyers in the first round, the one team they struggled with all year. It’s not inevitable that either the Red Wings or Devils will peak too soon, but the matchups might not be right.

Either you meant to say Rangers instead of Flyers, or 2010, instead of 2008…

Yeah that’s right.
Lost 4-1 to Rangers in 2007-08.
Lost 4-3 to Hurricanes in 2008-09.
Lost 4-1 to Flyers 2009-10.
I was referring to the Flyers.
The Red Wings have examples of that despite very strong showings in the regular season.
by Alan Wright on Jan 19, 2012 12:25 PM EST up reply actions
The Red Wings have as good a chance to win the Cup as any other above average team in the NHL. Above average in ones conference is all it takes to make the playoffs (8 out of 15). As soon as that second season starts, every single team has a chance to win the Cup until they get bounced by someone who wants it more, plays harder, and has the depth, health and/or blazing hot streak to do it.

That was more or less my point. Playoff hockey is at fiercely, ruthlessly competitive level and a series requires quick adjustments, luck w/r/t not getting injured (or shanabanned), and a helluva lot of grit.
Past performance is not a perfect measure of future expectation, so I think that the a playoffs-bound Devils team can cut the mustard as well as most.
There are times – like right now – that a team like Boston is dominant in a game and probably across a series. But strengths like that can be taken apart.

Peaking now gets you a potential extra home game in a series. Peaking in April and May is far more important.
I can wait.

No disagreement there. Speaking of:
I like this chart because while it has lots of statistical gaps in terms of “playoff chance” it gives you a sense of how many points are being collected to get/ stay over .500.
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/Eastern/Atlantic.html
In terms of peaking, based on that chat the Rangers are already “at” a peak. The question is whether or when they’ll fall of it or if another Atlantic division team will rise with the tide.
