Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

For a 4th rounder in the upcoming draft and AHL defenseman Joe Sova per Chip Alexander (beat writer for Canes). The left winger has 7 goals and 15 points (SB Nation Page). Per CapGeek - he's making $1.5 million this year and will be a UFA this offseason.

I like that trade. A big body in front and will provide some extra scoring depth. We didnt give up much and we arent stuck with his contract (we still have plenty of money to resign Zach).

Poni-Josefson-Clarkson is a decent third line. Could teddy be gone?

I hope this doesn’t mean Zajac will be out longer than we thought…

Ponikarovsky used to be a corsi monster… I’ll have to check on his numbers but he’ll definitely be an improvement over Tedenby or whoever else.

Just checked: yeah he’s still really really good according to corsi, just fighting ridiculously bad luck the last year and a half. This could turn out incredibly well for the Devils or just reasonably well. Either way it’s a win.

haha, yeah, that’s the way i see it. NJ has gotten nothing out of Palmieri or Tedenby this year, and their wing depth is horrendous. Ponikarovsky is a perfect remedy, and NJ gives up nothing of importance to get him.

He has 7 goals and 15 points, not assist.

Hasn’t scored since December 13th… Hopefully Deboer can get this guy going to the 60 point guy he used to be.

And Kovalchuk speeds away, great moves, busting through, DID YOU SEE THAT?

I like this move. I remember him from being on Pitt’s team a few years back. Not bad, hopefully he really adds a lot to the team.

Where was he located right before the trade. I mean, what team was he on, and where were they, home or on a road trip? What’s the chances of him playing tomorrow, being that it is an early afternoon game.

Gulitti is throwing up a bunch of tweets. He’s gonna try and get into Jersey by tomorrow (snow storm may be a problem) and he and PDB will make a decision if he plays.

Canes were home tonight. He could possibly be here for the game.

I love this trade, we gave up practically nothing to get a bonafide NHL player. He’s got size and good hands, he could work out really well.

There is nothing quite as satisfying as out running security after you've punched out a Flyers fan!

Its also become apparent that Lou has developed a thing for tall eastern Europeans.

Poni played on our third line earlier this season and was pretty decent. He’s not the most defensively responsible, and he is slow (still nursing the knee injury), but he is big and has a scoring touch in front of the net.

Unfortunately, he has been made somewhat obsolete here in Carolina lately. We signed him in hopes that he could regain his pre-injury form and provide some scoring in the top six. He showed some flashes at the beginning of the year and he was at once on pace for a 20 goal plus season, but he has since died down and has been playing on the fourth line recently. The experiment failed and we have too many young prospects who should be playing to have him take up a roster spot for the rest of the year.

Just don’t expect him to score in droves. We all made that mistake and were projecting him to be with Staal before the season started. He is definitely not anywhere near the player that he used to be, but if you can get him to stay around the net, he will score 15 goals a season.

He’s not the most defensively responsible

Your not just saying this because like every Russian forward NHL’er is labeled this are you?

by NJDOhio on Jan 20, 2012 10:57 PM EST up reply actions

Not at all. I’ve watched him play for the last few months.

Hockey News Profile

They actually describe him as defensively sound, teh way I read it.

First glance: I like this move. Any benefit to the bottom six is, well, a benefit.

Second glance: I like this move.

I think that if you call up zharky and then let teddy or plams play the Devils may have a legitimate fourth line.

Trade came out of nowhere

Doubt he plays tomorrow since he played tonight in Carolina.
Tuesday vs Buffalo his first game as a Devils, I have tickets via the 2 for 1 deal, excited to see how he does.

The Devils have won more titles than all Philly pro sports teams combined in the last 25 years

Another thing of note, he’s going to play 85 games this year…
