The Game: The New Jersey Devils (26-19-2) vs. the Buffalo Sabres (19-24-5)
The Previews: John has a preview up for tonight's game, which can be found here. While Die By the Blade doesn't have a preview up, they have a solid write up about the team's struggles.
A Song For Tonight: The opposition hails from Buffalo. I'm not too familiar with the Buffalo Metal scene, but a very notable band hails from nearby St. Catharines- Alexisonfire. Tonight's song, Waterwings (And Other Poolside Fashion Faux Pas) comes from their best album, their self-titled first Album.
Gameday Info: Devils Defenseman Peter Harrold is going to make his debut tonight as the 4th line winger (seriously, it beats Janssen there) and will wear #10. The Lines and pairings should be the same outside of that. As for the Sabres, Defenseman Christian Erhoff will return to the lineup tonight per John Vogl of Sabres' Edge. Additionally, Robyn Regehr will return tonight as well. Ryan Miller looks like he will be the starting goalie tonight for the Sabres.
Talking Red: In case you missed it, this week's episode features former Devil Bobby Holik talking about several different issues with the Devils, such as Zach Parise's contract as well as Ilya Kovalchuk and Jacques Lemaire.

The Devils have 25 fighting majors this season. Boulton has 4. Janssen has 5. The rest of the team has 16.
When your two “enforcers” average one combined fight every six games, I’m not particularly confident that they’ll “do something” drop the gloves. Also, when your two “enforcers” average one combined fight every six games and there are other guys on the club who are as prolific dropping the gloves as they are…. well, that’s when I start questioning why either one is on the roster, let alone both, let alone having both in the lineup at the same time.
We could ice a 4th line of Mills-Carter-Zharkov and be just fine. The 4th line would be slightly more effective on the ice, and there are enough other guys on the roster who could handle the pugilism if necessary.
I definitley should have used a sarcasm font
but sometimes I’m really asking to myself if you pay attention what people here are generally saying.
I’m a huge fan of Zharkov, I don’t care about Fighting, and I’m all for a “playing” 4th line.

I doubt it. The Elias, Zubrus, Sykora line has shown great chemistry so PDB probably wont break that up and that leaves Josefson and Carter. I know Carter isnt a top line player and I dont Josefson is either right now. Henrique has shown some fantastic chemistry with Kovy and Zach so I doubt PDB breaks it.

Hopefully they keep with this strategy, if we keep getting guys in front of the net and getting the puck there we will eventually start scoring. It works for the Red Wings.

Yes, but with all that skill they still get screens and deflections and go to the net and jam away. My point was if they do it, then there is no reason we should think that we don’t have to do the dirty work to get goals.

Consistently inconsistent
This team is absolutely frustrating to watch. One week, they’re creeping up on the leaders, the next, they’re out of the freaking playoffs.
