Ownership Divided
Does anyone know the direction that each ownership group wants to go? I could be wrong, but it seems like JVB is looking to spend, but I don’t hear much about what Chambers wants to do.
Any information is appreciated.
Vanderbeek wants to own a hockey team and help New Jersey and Newark by doing it. Brick City’s purpose was to help revitalize Newark.
Almost a year ago was when all the news came out that Brick City wanted out and that both groups wanted to go in a certain direction. Here’s the article:
Gilfillan issued a statement today:
“Brick City has exercised its contractural rights under its partnership agreement with Jeff Vanderbeek to cause a sale of the entire team and arena rights, subject to certain terms and conditions.
“We are at the beginning stage of this process and Moag and Company has been retained to assist in those efforts.
“Our goal was to use professional sports as a catalyst for economic development in Newark by constructing a state of the art arena for the teams as well as for concerts and family shows.
“Brick City feels we have accomplished that objective with our partner Jeff Vanderbeek. The arena and the teams playing here have also attracted more people to come back to the city in an ongoing effort to restore pride, sports, arts, culture and business to this beautiful city.”

Sounds like Brick City is acting like a venture capital company that simply wants to move on to something else. It’s what they do. I hope they can find someone to buy their share that is interested in turning us into a cup contender again soon.
Appreciate the info.
The Globe and Mail just did an article on them
It isn’t the best, pretty much summarizing up what has already been said.

The Devils have signed Bernier to a 2-way deal at the league minimum. He has joined the Devils and might play on Tuesday, this should help our 3rd/4th line because he has to be better than Mills or Janssen.
There is nothing quite as satisfying as out running security after you've punched out a Flyers fan!

Bernier should help, he’s a decent pro level RW.
Hopefully by the playoffs we’ll have all the forwards healthy. Parise, Kovy, Elias, Zajak, Henrique, Zubrus, Clarkson, Josefson, Ponikarovsky, Bernier, Carter and…
Well, I’m not sure who the 12th guy should be. But that looks like a solid bunch to me.

Everyone has more goals than Scott Gomez

I was looking through EPSN.com today, and they have a new article for this year’s NHL draft. I know that a lot of us here don’t particulary like ESPN as some writers there shouldn’t be employed in that field. They also don’t cover a lot of hockey, and follow the course of most main stream media.
It is an ESPN Insider Article, so unless you pay for it, you can’t read it. I wouldn’t mind posting things from it, but I won’t unless it gets okay’ed by management here, as I don’t want to violate any rules.
It is a scouting report on their top 50 players for the draft. It isn’t very indepth, just lists the name, weight, height, where they play and so on. It also gives a little snippet on them, but nothing substantial.
Just thought that I should mention it.
ESPN Paywalls are the dumbest things.
because people WANT to pay for Scott Burnside's brilliant hockey analysis

I don’t think he writes Insider articles.
I guess they value his work too much
This one was written by Grant Sonier, I guess he’s the NHL prospects guy.
I know. Kent Wilson (from Flames Nation) writes for them, so it’s actually good stuff. But they do have some of their main guys’ work (i.e. Lebrun, Custance) behind paywalls.

As interested as people may be in it like myself, it wouldn’t be any different from copy and pasting someone else’s article and taking credit for it. So I ask that you don’t provide a list of what’s beyond the paywall. If the story ever becomes freely available, a link would then suffice.

Hate/ Hartnell
Hatred. Hm, such a strong word. I think as HBO’s Rangers-Flyers 24-7 series reminds us, most of these guys are just regular dudes who get paid to play and win. They want to win for competitive reasons and, based on how and how well they play, it improves their financial well-being long-term.
Hartnell isn’t the most respectable player on the ice, but like most NHL pros, he’s just some regular dude trying to make a livin. On skates. He could be a bit cleaner about it.
Side note: this is like the Flyers promo year, eh, now that Crosby and Ovechkin plan hasn’t worked out? Flyers 24-7. 5 Flyers at the All-Star game. Replacement player neede for the ASG, call the Flyers. Who should get mic’d up at the ASG? Giroux and Hartnell. (And Kane, maybe?) Flyers fans even attacked some guy at Geno’s Steakhouse, making for the perfect media storm over both hockey and the Flyers fans’ reputation. Even the schedule itself did it: who did the Bruins host on their first home game, lifting the Cup before their home crowd? Da Flys.
Even Pronger (and his wife) have gotten more than a fair share of media attention. Sure, it’s a concussion. Always a sexy issue this year. I wonder if Shea Weber would get as much attention for a concussion. Mike Fisher (and his wife) might get some extra attention.
In any case, I see the Flyers as the media darling this year. The players are alright, but the organization and their fans aren’t. That said, I do respect Ed Snider. The NY Times had a good piece on him last month.
