Around SBN: Why Hockey Fans Should Root For Devils Vs. Kings

Supporters Section?

So far this season, or lately, i've noticed that the atmosphere at the Rock has been louder and more involved throughout the entire game. Unfortunatly i haven't been able to make it to a game yet this season and only been able to watch on T.V. I'm wondering how the supporter section is going. For example, if there are any new chants, or if people involved notice a difference, etc. Anyone who is involved in the Supporters Section have any updates yet?

I’ve been to a little over half of the home games so far this year and there’s no doubt the Supporters Section is noticed/heard throughout the arena. Do I wish it was bigger, louder, and more influential to other fans across the Rock? Of course, but all of these things can come in due time. So think I speak for a lot of Devils fans (and probably people in the NJ organization too) when I say that the Supporters Section is a much needed and appreciated element which thus far has improved our home game-day atmosphere immensely.

As for new chants, Matt Ventolo or someone else more familiar with the group can probably fill you in better than I can, but the Diablos have already implemented a number of newly created chants which they do throughout games and when certain situations warrant. And if you didn’t already know, they also stand for the entire game and have a beautiful sign which I linked to below. Note the guy in the red sweatpants. I have season tickets all the way across the stadium in section 111, but I can still pick this guy in the red sweatpants out every time I go and I think he wears them every game. They do look comfy..

Thanks! thats actually the first picture i’ve seen of the group. Also, i agree that it definitly is appreciated by the devils fans. I think this whole idea is awesome and im hoping that it will get even bigger. I can’t wait to see what its like in the playoffs which i am fairly optimistic we will make it

Also, everyone in this video would be given free season tickets if I were in charge.

Greenmen may be from a philly show but for hockey it’s definitely a Vancouver thing.

Here is the group’s facebook page .

Here is a rough outline of what the group does during games and beyond.

As a member – it’s a lot of fun and when the masses come – it really does create a better atmosphere during games. It’s family safe (in terms of language and negative comments) and it’s mostly Devils fans no matter who they play. I’ve heard may more good from people at the games and around here than not. The Devils players are aware and love it (the group went to a few signings and asked them). The goal of this group is to get the whole crowd going and follow suit on the chants. Any and all suggestions are welcome to increase the atmosphere at games. We need more chants/songs/antics that are fun and easy to do.

I’m glad you notice a difference and over the TV. I’ve heard that the NBCSN and NHLN feeds pick up the Diablos better than MSG (when the Devils are on those channels). It’s the first season and it will continue. A already know 10 people that want to switch to that section for next season.

Also a member here, recently kind of designated to being on the horn. As Matt said, we can always use new chants. “Let’s Go Devils” seems to spread the best, but it can’t hurt to have a little variety. Some games it feels like we get at least half the arena going, and some games it feels like it’s just us. The important part if you’re sitting outside of 122, especially in the sections right next to us, is to help spread whatever we’re doing. Even start a chant in your own sections if we’re being quiet for a minute. I try to listen out for “lets go devils” cheers starting elsewhere, then play the horn to try to help spread it.

The one thing I’d like to see catch on is 3:30 chant, when we start a countdown at 3:40, and then make as much noise as possible when the clock hits 3:30 (3 cups and 30 years, or 30 for Marty Brodeur) until the clock hits 3:00, where we start a “let’s go devils.” I would LOVE to get the entire arena to go nuts with us for this one.

In the picture

I notice a few empty seats, are they no-shows or unsold tickets?

FYI you guys and gals are doing great work with the chants and support, keep having fun!

empty seats

The reason for the empty seats is that the entire section (row 8 and back) is reserved strictly for the Diablos section. Only season ticket holders can sit there, and they don’t sell this tickets online or through and box office in order to avoid rival fans getting the tickets in that section or even fans who don’t wish to cheer sitting there and being annoyed. We’ve had problems in the past with rangers fans in the section or people telling us to sit and be quiet. However these seats do sell. Any friend of a diablo can get tickets through them by talking directly to a Devils ticket rep. We try to get people to fill the section as often as possible.

We’ve seen such a positive response of season ticket holder saying that they want to move their seats to 122 for next season that the hope is that it will be filled every game.

That photo was also taken during the first few games of the season when our numbers were a bit shorter as well.

3:30 chant

Do the devils do anything to help promote that? maybe see if they can get sometthing on the jumbotron to get the arena to make lots of noise!

by Devilsfan4life! on Jan 9, 2012 12:43 AM EST reply actions

it used to change to say “Diablos Raise Hell” “Thirty Seconds for Thirty Years” They recently stopped doing it to make alterations to the clips, it should be back soon, but we do work with the Devils directly to try to get other sections into it.

This is honestly the most disappointing part of the whole experience. I can’t believe that other devils fans have told us sit down, shut up, and whatever else you can think of. Granted most of this was at the beginning of the season and it has become a better, more understanding, atmosphere since.

I’m actually one of the three captains of the group and we really appreciate seeing the posts on here and how people think we are doing a good job, because at games when were the only people yelling it gets discouraging very quickly.

by the way, this group and whole idea is awesome and you guys are doing great at evertything you have done so far

As much as I love the idea of section 122 I like the lower bowl thats what needs to fill out more. I usually get tickets for pretty cheap from stubhub.com

it also helps tv appearances if the lower bowl has more butts in the seats

The Devs Organization should open up the bowl to upper deck tickets during the first intermission. At the very least it makes the telecasts look better.

Never will, because it devalues the ticket holders in the lowers

It’s not fair for them to pay top doller and see others who pay much less to move down.

Thank you

I am also part of the supporters section its good to see us getting a little love.. I thought a lot of people didnt like us… And for the lower section I agree I wish people would get louder down there.. thats where the majority of the little kids and old people go only way you can get them to get loud is by saying “who wants a t-shirt”.
