New Jersey Devils Prospect College Roundup

An update on the College prospects including a coach prospective on Rodwell and Pietila.

Welcome to week ten of the College Prospect Roundup. Although it was a quiet weekend for the prospects, I have an update on what the University of North Dakota's coach thinks of Derek Rodwell's quiet season and what Michigan Tech's coach thinks of Blake Pietila's penalties. There is also an update on the Mariucci Classic coming up at the end of December.

Jon Merrill:
The Wolverines were off last weekend - and Merrill is still out with injury. He is no longer in a neck brace, but he is still expected to miss a significant amount of time.

Blake Coleman:
Miami University went 1-1 against Lake Superior State last weekend. Coleman was held scoreless, but he had six shots and got two minutes for tripping on both Friday and Saturday.

Curtis Gedig:
Ohio State went 0-1-1 against Robert Morris. Gedig was quiet - his only action on the box score was a penalty for boarding.

In the CCHA, Miami fell to the number two spot behind Notre Dame, Ohio State came in fourth, and Michigan is in eighth.
This weekend will see Blake Coleman and Miami University face Curtis Gedig and Ohio State. That should make for an interesting matchup.

Blake Pietila:
In two games against Wisconsin, the teams tied both times. Pietila scored the Huskies' lone goal on Friday in a 1-1 tie. The following night, he got two penalties for slashing and roughing.
The coach for Tech, Mel Pearson is happy with Pietila's scoring but is requesting he stops taking "selfish penalties". He now has 16 penalty minutes on the season.

Derek Rodwell:
UND went 1-0-1 against Denver. Rodwell went scoreless again - he still has not scored a point this season.
In Friday's game (a 2-2 tie), Rodwell went without a single shot. Although it seems like he was next to useless, coach Dave Hakstol was happy with his performance, along with the entire fourth line.

"I thought from the start of the game through 65 minutes, they were consistent in what they do. They had great shifts and great energy. There was no risk to their game."

They were used at the end of the game and during overtime, showing the trust Hakstol has in them. Although that line didn't register any points in the game, they out-possessed and outworked their opponents every time they were on the ice.

Seth Helgeson:
In two games against Colorado College, University of Minnesota went 1-0-1. Helgeson got two minutes for roughing and two minutes for cross-checking. Other than his time in the box, he was quiet for the weekend.
The Gophers are off until December 29 - December 30 when they play in the Mariucci Classic with Boston College, Alabama, and Air Force. In the 21 years this competition has taken place, Minnesota has been the champion 12 times - although they have not won in three years.

Joe Faust:
Faust did not have the same impact for Wisconsin as Pietila did for Michigan Tech on the weekend double header. Faust was held to just two shots.

In the WCHA, Minnesota held on to the number two spot, , UND has sixth, Michigan Tech is in eighth, and Wisconsin kept their tenth seed.

There was no real standout this week - while Pietila scored the lone goal on the weekend, he is also racking up unnecessary penalty minutes - hopefully having his coach call him out will have a positive impact.

That's it for the roundup this week. What do you think of Derek Rodwell and his coach's outlook on his performance this season? Who would you like to see more from after the quiet week? Feel free to discuss the action below.
