New Jersey Devils European Roundup: Week 11

Al Bello

Three of the five Devils collected at least 2 points in this week's action!

The NHL lockout had a lot of activity this week. However, everything fell apart Thursday night and the news came out that the marathon CBA sessions had reached a point where they would break off the talks. While I don't have a crystal ball in front of me, I would suspect that the season may be all but lost. This could mean that we see big name players head abroad if the season may be lost. However, the current New Jersey Devils playing abroad had a great week.

Updates

Vladimir Zharkov had the best week he's had in the KHL. He scored two goals and picked up an assist over three games. He almost doubled his production from the previous 27 games this week. Kovalchuk continued his dominance by adding two goals to his ridiculous stat line. 32 points in 25 games while playing in the KHL. Kovalchuk is fifth in points in the KHL and has played only 25 games. Kovalchuk is currently sitting at a shooting percentage of 15.6%, about 4% higher than his shooting percentage last season. If the lockout takes the whole NHL season, SKA could be a favorite to win the league with Kovalchuk around. Also in the KHL, Volchenkov is back from injury and played one game this week. Hopefully Volchenkov can stay healthy and get some time in while he's in the KHL.

Marek Zidlicky posted one goal and two assists in 2 games. He also went +3. He continues to benefit playing with Jaromir Jagr and Tomas Plekanec. Gavrus had the week off. One thing I've noticed over these 11 weeks is that Kovy, Zidlicky, and Gavrus all have very strong plus/minus stats. I have a feeling that most of the NHL players

Who do you think should be first in the power rankings this week? The last few weeks it's been a pretty easy choice, but this week was a tough decision. I chose Zharkov because we almost expect Kovalchuk to pick up at least a point per game. Zharkov has been limited in his role on CSKA, so this is a surprise. Thanks for reading and lets hope for a CBA to be in place soon!
