Buyers vs Sellers
It must be nice for PDB to be out of Florida, though ironically the Panthers will also most likely be buyers over the next two weeks as well.

Are you intentionally not posting Everson’s articles? If so, for shame.
His start on the saga of the “super secret payroll budget” is some of his best work yet.
Here is the article if anyone wants it but I don’t recomend it.
Looks like Sather has been whining to the post again…
Specifically, at least one general manager has wondered aloud how a team that needs the league’s financial assistance is allowed to bring in Kurtis Foster at $1.8 million and Alex Ponikarovsky at $1.5 million
I take it that GM doesn’t understand players get paid daily to the cap. Devils aren’t giving Foster the full $1.8m nor Ponikarovsky the full $1.5m. Given that a GM wouldn’t understand that basic fact makes me wonder who it is…

Yes, because it’s more or less like giving traffic to Hackside or the Fraud.

Just saw this on the potential Zidlicky trade
If either Zubrus or Volchenkov are being considered as part of the deal, it should just be called off now.
I LOLed.
There’s no way…if they are even part of the conversation, I have to call into question whether or not Lou had a massive stroke sometime in the past 2 days.
I’m not going to lie to you. It felt good and I’m going to do whatever is in my power possible to stay there as long as I can. - Petr Sykora on playing on a line with Elias and Parise.

Marchand makes me sick. The outcome of this one isn’t as devastating as the clip on Salo, but I think the intent is even clearer. There’s no making a garbage excuse like “I ducked to protect myself” this time.
Though this incident, in and of itself, isnt so bad, the fact he hasn’t learned anything from his last suspension means the league should send a strong message.

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses?
Sheesh…. why is it that the Devils are being linked to every decrepit defenseman on the market. I understand our blue line has its shortcomings, I understand that our blue line doesn’t really have anything resembling a “household name”. That aside, none of the guys who are actively (and publicly) being shopped by their teams at this point is an upgrade to what we have now.
Lou isn’t going to make a lateral move for the sake of making a move — this team doesn’t need that sort of shakeup. I don’t see him bringing in one of these guys for “depth purposes”, either — there aren’t enough dollars in the team’s budget to justify such a move.
His numbers are Zidlickian. He’s 34 and he’s getting $3.5 million this year; though at least his contract ends after this season. The basic ones aren’t good and the advanced ones aren’t that much better, though he does get tougher competition than Zidlicky.
I’d say no.

Not disagreeing but...
The fact that he’s a real rental is big positive in my opinion. The Devils would be getting a $3.5m salary and $3.8m hit for this season rather than a $4m hit and salary for two seasons (this season being pro-rated of course). They’re basically the same age but Kubina has playoff experience and his name on the Cup – something teams in the Devils position like.
They both get around the same ES ice time: Zidlicky just under 17 and Kubina just over 16:30. Kubina gets SH and PP time whereas Zidlicky gets only substantial PP time (over 3 mins a game!). Kubina gets 2nd unit PK time and middle of the pack PP time. Kubina is more versatile in terms of situations.
Zidlicky’s Corsi and Fenwick % are better, yes – but as you said he gets weaker competition. Kubina’s numbers are close to Salvador’s. The difference here is Kubina’s on-ice Sht% at 10.9%. Only Andy Greene’s would be better on the blueline. His on-ice SV% is weak but I guess one could thank Roloson for that. Both Zidlikcy and Kubina rank low in terms of on-ice SV% on their respected team’s bluelines. Zidlicky gets favorable Off zone starts (54.6%…finishes at 51%). Kubina Off zone start is 42% and finishes at 45%. Putting all these factors together – I feel Kubina has a slight edge here. If that’s in the “Zidlickian” range – then sure.
The fact that he has playoff experience, is cheaper, is an actual rental, his numbers suggest he could really help the depth on D, the 2nd unit PP, and the PK (Since Tallinder’s been out the PK is 78%.) – Kubina could really help the team’s defense; moreso than Zidlicky can. You probably don’t want either. I’d take a wild guess and say you don’t want a trade to happen at all (at least on D). .
And the Flyers giveaway a 2nd and a 3rd (2013) for Nicklas Grossman. The scale for acquiring defensemen?
