Reminds me of an old game we used to play where a theme is chosen (say, famous quotes) and the sentences are run through babelfish (or a translator of choice) into a random foreign language, then that result is run through another random foreign language, and then that result is translated back into English and posted. Participants have to guess what the original quote was.
1. The Rules and Guidelines of ILWT clearly state that this is an English only site.
2. This will deter potential readers. It’s annoying, not funny.

Um, as much as we love hockey and the devils, most of us don’t speak french
I am a fan of the Devils not the Habs, Change this to english.

Buncha xenophobic anglophones too lazy to copy/paste into a translator or just click the links to see where it goes!
I don’t speak French, and I was not as violently offended as others on the site, Kevin. I actually liked that you took the time to do this, considering that we are playing the Habs and their coach has vowed to learn French.
It’s fitting, and clever. Also, elesias has translated in his comment, so if it’s really that terrible, please refer to his comment.

Wasn’t expecting anyone to complain about this. I just put everything in french because the Devils were playing the Habs.

Well, it turns out everyone hates French. This comment thread makes me feel like i’m in Elementary school and everyone’s going “Why do we have to learn french”

Well, I appreciate your humour at least.
I just think that any game against the Habs really ought to reference the greatest web site ever.

No, wait you’re talking about the Gomez goal site.

Stupid French. What have they ever done for us, anyway? I mean besides the whole financial and military assistance during the Revolutionary War that allowed the Colonies to push back the British and force them to deal with larger problems closer to home that enabled the Founding Fathers to found a new nation based on freedom and acceptance thing?

I’d say after WW2 we’re all squared up with the french.

Hey, they’d have been fine behind the Maginot line if Germany had forgotten about Belgium!
Besides the point, though. It’s not about “being square.” It’s about the unnecessary and, frankly, unexpected vitriol towards something as silly as the daily links being posted in broken French like it’s offensive because, well, it’s not A-mer-kin tawk.
Besides, the French aren’t the rear-holes that Americans seem to think that they are. When my wife and I were in Paris back in October, many people spoke English well enough to answer any of our questions, including the hotel manager, who was ridiculously helpful.
And those who didn’t speak English were all patient and friendly enough as we tried to charade our way through a conversation.
But I guess maybe that’s a French thing. It’s apparently a sin to not speak French in Quebec, while it’s ok to not speak it in France.
Go figure.

That’s the funny part: the language is such a source of nationalistic pride to the Quebecois, but not nearly as much so in the nation in which it was born.

Ever heard of the Academie francaise?
I’m part French; believe me, I hear it all the time from relatives.
Not to mention selling us 23% of our entire land area in 1803 for the 2011 value of $219 million dollars (which was $1 million more than the Devils estimated value as of 12/31/2010).
Bunch of jerks.

Clearly a Straw Man
Carefully read my comment or those made by others and you’ll see this isn’t some anti-french, xenophobic crusade. It’s simply common sense that on a workday many of your readers are short on time and come here for quick access to Devils links. Have your fun in any language you choose—I could care less. But have the courtesy to include English in the post for readers who are in a hurry. The omission of English from your original post demonstrates a lack of respect for and awareness of other people’s time. And that’s annoying.

Indeed. One could always write their own blog where all other languages are banned and all attempts at humor ridiculed.

Wow, what a bunch of angry people…
Un peu de calme s’il vous plaît, les Français ne sont pas tous des cochons de socialistes qui ne se lavent jamais les dents et mangent des cuisses de grenouilles… Merci !
Very sad to read some reactions hhere…

My Francophonic friend: I think people were just frustrated at not seeing the summaries of the articles, and on the internet (especially when anonymous on the internet), people just get all kinds of mean and snippy.
It’s was minimally inconvenient for a short period, but should have nothing to do with the Quebecois or the French people.
C’est la vie.
yeah, no worries :)

I don’t know why some people are as annoyed as they seem, but it is horrible french.
Way too many overreactions for something as harmless as this.
And @TheTrapezoidConspiracy, the broken french (the reason for which was explained in the beginning) won’t call off potential readers; the overreactions to something done in a lighthearted mood will.
Sometimes, this board is just way too uptight and humorless for my taste.

I like French dressing on my salad.
Anyway, didn’t anyone go to that one sad guy site? That was actually pretty funny.
Wow, I didn’t expect this reaction.
Sure, it was inconvenient, but I saw something I couldn’t read and moved on. Since I cannot access translation applications from this location, I guess I figured if anything earth-shattering was going on, someone would mention it here in english.
I’m not going to lie to you. It felt good and I’m going to do whatever is in my power possible to stay there as long as I can. - Petr Sykora on playing on a line with Elias and Parise.
i sat confused for a minute wondering why the english language no longer made sense to me then read the headline. I think this is awesome to change things up..

Haha what, Your russian? i sat above you in the tampa supporters section game last year, looked the farthest thing from Russian imaginable.
And Kovalchuk speeds away, great moves, busting through, DID YOU SEE THAT?
I find it funny that the subject on an email I got from the Devils this morning (gamepreviews) was in French.
Man that’s sooooo annoying.

Bravo.
You annoyed and invigorated the fanbase going into a game hosting the Canadiens.
It was only a tad annoying (though by the time I showed up the translations were there) though it’s easy to click the links and just be done with it. Anyway, the cognates from French-to-English tell you most of what’s going on. Sort of.
But in the end… the result has unified the Devils’ fans against les habitants.
