Game 64 Preview: New Jersey Devils at Washington Capitals

The Time: 7:00 PM EDT

The Broadcast: TV - MSG PLUS; Radio - 660 AM WFAN

The Game: The New Jersey Devils (35-23-5) vs. the Washington Capitals (32-26-5)

The Last Capitals Game: The Capitals beat the New York Islanders in dramatic fashion in OT. The Capitals got two late third period goals from Troy Brouwer. Then Alex Ovechkin netted a beautiful game winner a minute and a half into overtime to win it.

The Last Devils Game: The Devils had a strong game against the Bruins but came up short in overtime. David Krejci had the game winner and a hat trick. Brodeur played fantastic and the Devils played an all around good game. The Devils exploded for three goals in the second but that was all the offense the Devils could get on Tim Thomas. John has the recap here.

The Last Devils-Capitals Game: The Devils last played the Caps on December 23, 2011. The Devils won in the shootout to steal the second point. The Devils went up three points halfway through the second and the Capitals mounted a comeback that the Devils kept to three goals to force a shootout.

The Goal: The Capitals are only six points away from the Devils in the standings. Therefore the goal is to get two points without letting the Capitals get any. Since the Devils are on a four game losing streak, they need to stop before this turns into a long losing streak. The Devils do not have the luxury of allowing any more three point games than they need to. A few points on tonight's game after the jump.

The Devils lost four games in a row and only picked up one point in the last four games. The Devils have the worst last 10 record of the top eight teams in the East. At this rate the Devils will drop out of playoff contention.

Another goal is to shutdown Jason Chimera. Chimera has four goals against the Devils in the previous three meetings.

The Devils will be starting Johan Hedberg in net tonight since Marty played last night.

Good news for the Devils, the Capitals' power play is currently 2 for 32 and is struggling quite a bit.
