The Playoff Series They Just Played: And here's a list of all of the recaps of the playoffs games these two played in the first round. As you know, the Devils eliminated Florida in seven games with two straight overtime thrillers. The Flyers eliminated their cross-state rivals in six games that featured lots of scoring, bad goaltending, bad defense, violence, and more scoring.
Devils Series: Game 1 - Game 2 - Game 3 - Game 4 - Game 5 - Game 6 - Game 7
Flyers Series: Game 1 - Game 2 - Game 3 - Game 4 - Game 5 - Game 6
The Last Time These Two Met in the Playoffs: It was 2010. Jamie Langenbrunner was unhappy and moped around the ice, Ilya Kovalchuk was still new, Brian Rolston still took shots from the point and mostly missed for New Jersey, Lou threw a jar of jelly/jam, and the Devils got mired in a shooting slump at about 2% at evens. Chris Pronger ruled the blueline for Philly, Mike Richards acted like a chump all series, Dan Carcillo dived a lot, and the Flyers kept swarming. The Flyers won in five games.
The News Sources: With a new series, you're going to want to know the following people to get the latest news for each team.
The main sites for Devils news are Fire & Ice, which is where Bergen Record beat reporter Tom Gulitti reports his news; and NJ.com/Devils, which features beat reporter Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger. You can follow them on Twitter, too: @tgfireandice for Gulitti and @ledger_njdevils for Chere.
As for the Flyers, Philly.com's Flyers page combines the work of Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer at Broad Street Bull and Frank Seravalli of the Daily News at Frequent Flyers. Over at CSN Philly, Tim Panaccio is the main source for "insider" news. Their respective Twitter handles are: @BroadStBull, @DNFlyers, and @tpanotch.
The Predictions & A More Proper Preview: Expect to see our predictions either later today or tomorrow morning. A more proper series preview will also come soon as well. This is just a primer of all the basic information to follow this series with a little history. Should you want a preview right now, David Strehle wrote this one at the SBN NHL hub.
In the meantime, please use the comments as an open discussion about this series. How do you like the matchup? Does the fact that this is a rivalry help or hurt the Devils? What do you think the Devils need to do to win this series? What do you expect to happen and why? Check back later today for a breakdown of Adam Henrique's overtime goal and then later into the weekend, predictions, a series preview, and, of course, Game 1. I don't know about you, but it feels good to know the Devils are playing into May. Real good. Thank you for reading.
