These playoffs have been an amazing ride. As a fan of the devils for many years, I have been spoiled by a team so well constructed that they were a game away from being described a dynasty. Lou is right there with Ken Holland as most consistent GM in the sport. As good as Lou has been however, this upcoming offseason will be one where he needs to make every move perfectly. This offseason will decide if we will be a team that contends while rebuilding, or a team that has to tank a few years to recover. Martin Brodeur and Zach Parise are the two Devils that garners the most attention but there are several other questions that need to be answered for this team to contend in 2013

According to CapGeek, These are the rest of our players who will need to be extended or let go

Ryan Carter, Petr Sykora, Cam Janssen, Steve Bernier, Stephen Gionta, Bryce Salvador, Peter Harrold, Mark Fayne, Johan Hedburg.

Now there are two things here that really stand out to me.

Our 4th line has been great. Its been a long time since the Devils had the ability to roll four lines and not worry about being burned for it. We dont have to have a Janssen or Boulton on the roster because we have the depth. I feel Gio, Carter, and Bernier all need to come back. If Josefsson is healthy, then maybe Carter goes but I really feel Bernier has a lot of potential and has played very well. Gio, well he isnt going anywhere. Book it

Bryce!

Bryce Salvador ever playing another game was a doubt to me after his concussion issues. I always picture him when i hear Barry Melrose talk about our "No name" defense. But this year has shown his value to this team. He has been a rock this year, and has really become one of the good guys on the team. He is an older player, so he must not get a Mogilny contract, but a 2 year deal at a reasonable price seems well deserved.

I think someone will pay way to much for Hedburg and he deserves it. No way he returns. Sykora is a toss up if he comes back its one year. Fayne is a RFA, and will get extended. Harrold i dont see coming back, its either him or Bryce. Cam has played his last as a devil.

Those are my thoughts, what are yours?
