Rangers to host Devils Pre-Season in Albany

Hello folks,

I just wanted to drop some news that I had read through the Albany Devils, and the Albany Times Union. Just as they did last year, the Devils will meet the Rangers at the Times Union Center in Albany on Wednesday, September 26th. Ticket prices will begin at $19.50 and go up to $52.

While this certainly fits into the category of marketability that was discussed on this blog, it is a Rangers home game in an area that is still particularly Rangers fan dominant. Last year the game drew 9,420 fans, in an arena that seats 14,236 for hockey. Many people cited the ticket prices as the reason they did not attend. There were also concession issues, as Aramark was unprepared for the amount of people that did come, however they have issued a statement indicating they will be more prepared.

Many people also pointed out the odd feel of the game last year, as it was a Devils home game and so Devils "pump up" graphics were displayed on the screens, however the crowd was very Ranger dominant. As stated above, this year's game is a Rangers home game, due to the MSG renovations. Many have commented in various Albany media outlets that there has been an outcry from the hockey fans in the Albany area to move the Rangers affiliate to Albany should the A-Devs relocate, as they continue to be at the bottom of the AHL in attendance.

Hopefully those in the Albany area, or those interested in taking a Fall road trip (I can personally atest to the natural beauty of Upstate NY in the fall) would come up and support their Devils. The link to the Times Union article, which links to the official press release can be found here.
