This is my first post as a member of the "In Lou We Trust" website and I'm proud to be on board. That being said, let's get down to business. I'm sure many devils fans like myself were very upset at the recent development that Rick Nash will be facing our beloved team 6 times now instead of 1, and it will be with a NYR sweater on. This isn't too comforting considering the guy's mad skill. So I'm also sure that many devils fans are wondering how the devils will combat it. To those who were anticpating the signing of a big player in response- I'm sorry to say that it's not going to happen.
Mainly for financial reasons. Let's not forget that the Devils, while they do have cap space to sign a big contract for a player like Semin, MUST NOT get tied up in a deal like that. At the end of next season, Elias, Zajac, Zubrus, and Clarkson are all UFA's while Josefson and his Swedish colleague Tedenby are RFA's. This cannot be comforting from a devils fan standpoint. These players DEFINE NJD hockey in my opinion. They are not big names nor do they have staggering stats. But their hearts and teamwork quietly win games, and thats the NJD way. Therefore, it is paramount to Lou to resign every single one of these players because of how essential they have been in their own unique ways to the success of this current team. He needs the space for that at the end of next season.
But even putting aside the financial reasons, I truly believe in the current offensive talent (even without Captain traitor). Clarky scored 30 goals last year- who knew?! Zajac is establishing himself as a big time center. Josefson, Henrique, and Tedenby are all young, rising stars. Elias, Zubrus and Sykora, while seasoned, definitely still have 15-20 goals EACH in them. And of course there's Ilya Kovalchuk who I believe will light it up next season knowing he's the top offensive power now. So I don't know why the devils would risk signing a questionable player like Semin, who's known to be a coach's nightmare which is truly the last thing the devils need right now given the stability behind the bench and in the lockeroom.
So in all, trust in our team. Yea the Rangers have Nash which is just another post it on their long history of grabbing the top players. But we believe in our beloved team, just the way it is now, to get the job done
