The Devils have a logjam of defensemen, that's no secret. 6 are NHL only contracts, Harrold and Larsson can be shipped to the AHL if necessary, and in Albany we also have Urbom and Corrente with NHL experience. Given that we have 8 defensemen who made an impact last season, I've read articles saying one will be shipped out before the season. Here's my thinking:

Volchenkov and Zidlicky have no trade or no move clauses. So they seem likely to stay. Larsson is untouchable, obvious reasons. Harrold stays because he's dirt cheap and a two way contract. Fayne we just signed as a RFA so I can't see him going anywhere either. And we also just resigned Salvador, so I doubt he's going anywhere. This leaves Tallinder or Greene, both of whom we could ship out for some offensive help. I don't know who I'd rather see go. Tallinder makes 3.375M, Greene 3M. I've enjoyed seeing Greene develop over the years and he developed some nice chemistry with Fayne as arguably our top pair this past year. Tallinder has always been a solid defenseman since his Sabre days. But I think because of his recent injuries, Tallinder has lower trade value than Greene. He's also older. So even though I'd probably rather see Tallinder go, I think Greene is more likely.
