the more I look into the proposals by the NHL owners and the NHLPA, the more i find myself siding with the players. the players offered an improved revenue sharing along with salary cuts, which to me seems like it would actually help the smaller market teams and especially those facing financial difficulty. does that description ring any bells? by comparison, the owners proposal largely consists of huge salary cuts. while this would in no doubt help the devils, it just seems that the players proposal is both an olive branch to ownership while a sincere attempt to solve the problems facing hockey today. the owners seem like they are just attempted to line their pockets a little more. basically, i cant find a good reason to support the owners here, since its fight being fought for the wealthy clubs, rather then the clubs actually in need of aid. combine that with the feeling that i us fans are being taken for granted, and the whole situation really offends me.
as an aside, can anyone explain to me how the shea weber deal doesnt "violate the spirit of the cap"? thanks.
