A look at New Jersey Devils prospects playing in the Canadian Junior Hockey leagues, namely the Canadian Hockey League.

With the lockout going on, we will be providing coverage of Devils in other leagues, such as the AHL as well as European leagues. Every Tuesday we'll be taking a look at the Devils prospects playing in the Junior Leagues, namely the Canadian Hockey League. While there are some Devils prospects playing in other Junior Leagues, they will also be covered in this roundup as well.

With all that's being said, here's the first major junior roundup.

Individual Notes

Stefan "Jr" Matteau (as the QMJHL websites like to call him)- Matteau and the Armada have gotten off to a 2-0 start, with Stef leading the way. His 4 points are good for tops on the Armada, scoring a goal and an assist in both his games.

Individual Notes

Reid Boucher- Boucher has been named one of four Alternate Captains for the Sarnia Sting. For those unfamiliar with the OHL, teams are allowed to have three alternateseach game (in addition to the captain), as opposed to the three captains (Captain and two alternates or three alternates) in the NHL. So for most of the season, Boucher will be wearing an "A" for Sarnia. Good for him.

Artur Gavrus- As you may have noticed, Gavrus has yet to play a game this season. The good news is that it's not because of injury, but rather an undisclosed issue.

Ben Thomson- Thomson has been named an Alternate Captain for the Rangers, along with Matt Puempel and Tobias Rieder. While a lot of us aren`t impressed with his play/scouting reports, the Kitchener coaching staff like this guy enough to name him a leader.

Damon Severson- He fought JC Lipon Sunday against the Kamloops Blazers. He looked pretty good in the fight.

Reece Scarlett- Scarlett missed Saturday`s game against Moose Jaw after being driven into the boards during the season opener against Moose Jaw. The Broncos have yet to update us on his condition. Scarlett has also been named an alternate captain for the Broncos.

Alexander Kerfoot- While Kerfoot has returned to the BCHL, his player profile on the Coquitlam Express shows that he's committed to Harvard. So at least we know where he's going next year.

Devils Junior Prospect of the Week- Stefan Matteau

Like I said in the individual notes section for the Q, Matteau had an excellent week. With his strong performance he earns the DJPotW award for this Week.

Other Features

In future editions, there will be more features. Because I can catch some of the Devils OHL prospects live, I can provide some thoughts on the player's play in general in that game. In addition to this, I will also try and get interviews with CHL bloggers as well. This week's section doesn't feature any special content, but there will be some more features in future editions.

With all that being said, which of the Junior prospects are you most impressed with so far? While it's only been two games, I'm impressed with Matteau's performance.Feel free to discuss the prospects playing in the Canadian Juniors. Thanks for reading.
