So obviously it's going to be completely changed, far more so than our 5 on 5 or penalty kill will be from Kovalchuk leaving. However am I the only one who thinks this could possibly be a good thing?
I've always thought we were over reliant on him in this regard as we would often play him the entire two minutes, which i've not really seen other teams do with any of their players. This made opposing teams life easier as if he was focussed on it'd often lead to our powerplay completely falling apart and even when it seemed to work, it was never on fire in the first place. Our power play will no doubt be missing a great weapon with him gone, but it seemingly needed a good reworking anyway so now this will make sure that happens.
I think Ryder could do good work on our powerplay and i'm hoping Clowe can prove my worries about him wrong. Then it's possibly adding a free agent such as Brunner or somehow pulling off a trade for a high quality guy (Although no idea how we'd pull that off at the moment, without getting ripped off). Hoping Larson or one of the youth D, can be given a chance and start to shine as a powerplay quarterback, because otherwise it's pretty much on Zids, who I don't rate at all.
