Comparing Ryane Clowe to the other "Big Name" forwards signed today

As we all know, the Ryane Clowe signing came as a bit of a surprise to all of us today. Overall the signing is one with plenty of risk due to Clowe's health concerns and his age, however I wanted to take some time and throw together a quick chart of how all of the big name forwards signed today have been doing to give us a basis of comparison.

The numbers in terms of games played, goals, assists, etc are from the 2010-2011 season up to today. This gives us a three year sample size which considering none of these guys are young players should give us a reasonable idea of what each player brings to the table.

Now personally looking at this chart it makes me think we got fair market value for Clowe. Yes he has some health concerns, but from a PPG standpoint he falls right around the middle of the pack, and is VERY comparable with almost all of the other players on this list near his age. It's kind of curious to me that a lot of people are lauding the Red Wings for the Stephen Weiss signing while trashing us for signing Clowe. Both players struggled mightily last season, and both players had significant injury trouble last year.

If people are interested and I have time I might consider doing a greater analysis of some of the players here using some of the more advanced stats.

Thanks for reading, this is my first post on here so I would appreciate any pointers as to how to do this better.
