I am asking an open question - looking back, was the trade for Kolvachuk one of the worst moves in recent Devils history? One, despite his now absence will impact negatively on the team for several years to come.True, Kolvachuk is a franchise player but did he ever really fit into this franchise?
While Kolvachuk did make an effort to improve his sometimes questionable defensive efforts, the Devils were never going to be the kind of run & gun team that could really showcase this exceptional sniper. They paid a pile of money to get him, a pile of league fines, and still in the end could not keep him. What sort of role Kolvachuk's contract played in the eventual loss of our Captain will never fully be known. But they are both gone and team management is left to pick up the pieces.
Did we try to build team around the wrong man? Sure looks that way. Was Lou really behind the Kolvachuk trade in the first place? Something tells me it was forced from above and never was the fit people were hoping for. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed watching this gifted player but he never was going carry the Franchise.
