The Last Devils Preseason Game: Disclaimer - I did not get to see the game last night, but I did listen to it, so this short review is based on what I heard and read online following the game.

Last night, the Devils visited the Montreal Canadiens and fell 3-2. The Devils saw goals from Michael Ryder (his first as a Devil) and Adam Larsson. Two of the three goals scored on Martin Brodeur were on the powerplay, both scored by Max Pacioretty. Ryan White scored the game winner for Montreal with under four minutes to go in the third period. The gloves were dropped between Alex Urbom and Brandon Prust just seven minutes into the first period - that was the only fight of the game (even though both Barch and Jansen were in the lineup!). From the sound of it, Brodeur had quite a few good saves and stopped 22 of the 25 shots he faced. Shots were pretty even until the third period in which New Jersey only had 4 shots to Montreal's 7. Final shots of the game were Montreal 25, New Jersey 21. Here is a full recap of the game.

The Last Flyers Preseason Game: The Flyers most recently fell to the New York Rangers last Tuesday 3-2. Philadelphia received goals from Max Talbot and Sean Couturier while goalie Steve Mason stopped 20 of 23 shots in the contest. The Flyers put 18 shots on net.

What to Expect: One thing to note about the Flyers - they have been off for a week. They're last game was exactly seven days ago, so they are well rested and the Devils are coming off of a game in Montreal. Since there were only ten players who stayed in New Jersey, some skaters will be playing in the back-to-back. It will be interesting to see which players DeBoer goes with as he looks to make some final decisions on the roster.

Some players who didn't go to Montreal that we may see tonight include Patrik Elias, Damien Brunner, Ryan Carter, Bryce Salvador, Marek Zidlicky, and Anton Volchenkov. Ryan Clowe is a question mark after suffering an injury during the game in Brooklyn on Saturday - he has resumed practicing with the team, but has yet to play in another preseason game. I would like to see him in at least one more game before the regular season kicks off if he is 100%. It is still up in the air whether Jaromir Jagr even exists as he hasn't been seen in the arena since his injury during the first day of training camp, so I doubt he'll be playing tonight - maybe he'll skate with the team, though!

Hopefully this game will take closer look at who may make the final roster seeing as it is the second to last preseason game. I wouldn't expect to see Tedenby or Loktionov as they haven't practiced in quite a while due to injury, but his will be where guys fighting for a roster spot get one of their final chances to impress. If any healthy player who is still fighting for a spot sits out, I would expect it to be Josefson. He has played in every preseason game so far, so it wouldn't be a complete shock if he sat this one out.

Since Brodeur played the entire game last night, it seems logical to assume that Cory Schneider will be in net this evening. This could be a preview at how the 22 back-to-backs may play out during the regular season.

As the preseason begins to wrap up, who would you like to see on the ice? Are there any young players you are hoping to see play one more time in particular? What would you like to see the team work on before they run out of time with the games that don't count? Feel free to discuss what you hope to see in Philadelphia in the comments below. As always, thanks for reading.
