This post will recap the fifth week of Devils prospect action for the 2014-15 season. It's highlighted by the two Blakes continuing their strong senior years in college hockey, John Quenneville excelling in juniors, injuries to Connor Chatham and Artur Gavrus, Albany slipping up slightly, and Myles Bell having an 11 shot game. Check out the stats below!

In OHL action, Ryan Kujawinski continues to struggle to break out. He had just 1 goal in 3 games over the week and is yet to have a multi-point game this season. Connor Chatham did not play for Plymouth this past week due to an undisclosed injury.
In WHL action, John Quenneville continued his productive campaign with 2 goals and 3 assists in 3 games over the week. Ryan Rehill racked up 2 assists and 4 minor penalties over 3 games for Kamloops. Brandon Baddock had a goal in 4 games played over the week, though it did break a 125 minute goal drought for the Oil Kings.
In the QMJHL, Anthony Brodeur struggled, appearing in only one game in which he was pulled after allowing 3 goals on 14 shots in 27:29. He's now about 13% below league average by GA%- and has the same amount of Really Bad Starts/Bail Outs to Quality Starts.

Blake Coleman continued his strong start with 4 points and 9 shots for Miami in a weekend set against Minnesota Duluth. More on him down below. The other Blake had 3 power play points for Michigan Tech against Michigan. Pietila is once again doing well in the faceoff circle winning 68.8% of his draws.
Alexander Kerfoot opened up his sophomore season with a goal for Harvard against Dartmouth. He is centering the top line with Predator's prospect, Jimmy Vesey and New Jersey native, Kyle Criscuolo on his wings.
Steve Santini remains out following wrist surgery until January but the Devils other defense prospect in college hockey, Joshua Jacobs had an assist in Michigan State's second win of the season. This was his first collegiate point so hopefully he can use it as a jumping off point, though he does face a tough task playing on a rebuilding team.

Artur Gavrus was scoreless in his 2 games last week but his minutes continued to be elevated from last year. In fact his 13:07 total in his most recent game was cut short due being boarded by Andrei Konev of Sibir Novosibirsk, who was subsequently suspended for a game. Gavrus missed Dinamo's most recent game after and there isn't any information on his status for their game on Wednesday.
Joey Dudek was held off the scoresheet in 2 games against Fargo, though he did manage 3 shots and an even rating.

Transactions: On Sunday, New Jersey returned Reid Boucher to Albany and re-signed former Devils defenseman Mark Fraser to an AHL deal for depth. On Monday, New Jersey recalled Steve Bernier and put Scott Clemmensen on waivers, indicating Keith Kinkaid is likely to receive a call up soon.
Wednesday 10/29: Albany defeated Springfield 4-2. Graham Black picked up his first two professional goals while Scott Timmins and Mike Sislo added one each. Stefan Matteau picked up two assists in his return to the line up after an injury caused him to miss a couple of games. Keith Kinkaid had another strong start, stopping 30 of the 32 shots put on goal by Springfield. Albany was outshot 32-17 and went 1/5 on the PP and 4/5 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.
Saturday 11/1: Albany lost to Bridgeport 4-1. Paul Thompson scored the lone Devils goal thanks to assists by Scott Timmins and Steve Bernier on the power play. Scott Wedgewood made 22 saves on 25 shots as the Devils outshot Bridgeport 27-26. Albany went 1/6 on the PP and 5/7 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.
Sunday 11/2: Albany suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Portland. Scoring the only goal for the Devils was Joe Whitney with assists by Paul Thompson and Scott Timmins. As the Albany Devils twitter account notes, that line has a combined 31 points this season. Keith Kinkaid made 21 saves on 23 shots as Albany outshot Portland 32-23. Albany went 0/7 on the PP and 3/4 on the PK. Here is the gamesheet.

Myles Bell had a great game on Friday when he put up 2 goals, an assist, 11 shots, and a shootout goal for Evansville in a loss to Indy. He had a much quieter outing on Saturday as he just managed 1 shot on goal. Hopefully he can keep getting shots on net and more importantly in the net as this is a level he should be dominating if he is to be a NHL player down the road.
Prospect of the Week
Blake Coleman is our prospect of the week with 3 goals and an assist in 2 games over the weekend. The Plano, TX native was recently named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week for his strong performance. The senior currently leads his Miami team in goals and points. Amongst the national leaderboard, he is currently tied for third in points, tied for fourth in goals, and tenth in shots per game. While he mainly plays left wing for Miami, he has taken his fair share of faceoffs and has shown improvement early on this year, going 56/87.
ADevil of the Week
I'm going to switch it up a bit and give this week's honors to the Whitney-Timmins-Thompson line that has helped Albany get off to a hot start. As noted above, they have scored 31 points for the Devils and carried the team as you would expect from three AHL veterans. These players may not feature for the big club but will serve an important role in the success of the minor league club. While I expect this trio of players to produce, I do expect them to cool off a bit as the season goes on. After all, Albany has had a PDO as high as 110.0 and is currently at 105.9 so some regression for the whole team is likely to come. Still, it is nice to see the players you would expect to produce, accomplishing that early in the season.
Your Take
Does Blake Coleman excite you as a potential NHL player? Are you hoping that Keith Kinkaid gets the call to New Jersey? What prospects stand out to you early on in the season? How much do you believe in Albany or do you think their hot start is misleading? Leave your comments below and thank you for reading!
