QMJHL Overage Player Jean-Francois Plante

So I left a comment in the prospect review of Daniel Audette, about Plante who had a break-out year and is probably a big reason, why Audette’s production went up so drastically. He had 33 goals and 7 assists in 41 games for Sherbrooke and 19 goals and 16 assists in 28 games for Victoriaville. That is 52 goals and 75 points in 69 games for Plante versus Audette’s 21 goals and 76 points in 68 games.

Plante is now 21 and therefore ineligible to return to the QMJHL. He says he is looking at some universities. Apparently his Victorville coach benched him for 59 minutes of the last game of the playoffs (he had one goal and three assists in 4 games), so there may be a discipline problem. I wonder being an undrafted overage player, this might not be an opportunity for someone to pick him up since he is no longer NHL draft eligible. So how does a guy like this not get extended a PTO contract or prospect camp invite?
