NHL Power Play GM Report Cards - Sirius XM NHL Radio today

Scott Laughlin and Jim "Boomer" Gordon presented their report card for the NJ GMs over the past 12 months today during the last 10 minutes of the 5pm hour. I thought it was well done (though tough to listen to as a NJ fan), worth checking out on a replay. Here's my attempt at recalling what they said. Boomer gave NJ an F, basically saying that NJ forgot what brought them success, which was drafting and developing players. He pointed to the small number of recent draft choices, poor drafting and shift to attempting to buy free agents, which doesn't work. He stated that he thought NJ was in the worst position of all 30 teams. Laughlin mentioned their chance at Auston Matthews and Boomer argued that they were in the worst position because Schneider would prevent them from having a real chance at a franchise player and they'd be stuck drafting around 8. So it might take 5 years for Shero (who they like) to turn this around. He argued that teams need to be awful or competing to win a Cup not struggling to be mediocre. All themes that are very familiar to ILWT writers and commenters. They did mention the strength in G and with the young D. Laughlin was slightly kinder, giving a D because he felt that Shero was making real progress in addressing the issues. Of course these are just the views of two radio personalities so I'm not offering it to argue whether they are right. It was just interesting to hear hosts who don't spend a lot of time watching NJ analyze the situation so clearly (IMO) and not kowtow to Lou despite their presence in Toronto. I've heard a bunch of these report cards this week and they've been very interesting. Check them out, I believe they do 6 each day during the 5pm hour.
