On old rejected deal the last 5yrs=2.75M. On new 15yr/100M deal the last 5yrs of deal=10M

Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos gives us some detail into the Kovalchuk deal: $90 million over the first 10 years of the deal, $10 million over the last 5 years.

I can confirm Don Fehr will take on the NHLPA job. He is in town at the world hockey summit but has not yet met with the media.

James Mirtle confirms what the reports have come out this evening: Don Fehr will be the next executive director of the NHLPA. (Example of a report: NHL Fanhouse) Here's the question I have: Why couldn't this have been done one or two months ago? Clarification: Nick Kypreos confirms, notes it's an interim position for Fehr. Oh, 2012 is going to be *fun*.

NJ owner Jeff Vanderbeek, NJ GM Lou Lamoriello and Ilya Kovalchuk's agent Jay Grossman met with NHL execs at league's NY office today. Hmmm?

E.J. Hradek from ESPN Could this mean that the Devils have finished working on a more cap friendly deal with Kovalchuk and they're seeing if the NHL is okay with it? We'll see... UPDATE: Dmitry Chesnokov reports that the deal w/ Kovalchuk will be announced in the next 24 hours. Update #2: Tom Gulitti has confirmed that the Devils have not submitted a contract for Kovalchuk. Lou, Grossman and Vanderbeek were discussing the structure of the contract. Update #3: Tom Gulitti's post has this quote from Bill Daly: " 'There was no new contract submitted," Daly said. "We talked conceptually.' " In a word: "Hmmmm." (Editor's Note, I'm responsible for #3, Kevin for all else.)

"I can tell you that during bargaining, that the league was not successful in negotiating rules to limit the length of contract a player can sign with a club,"

Ian Pulver, player agent and NHL CBA author, as reported by Michael Traikos of the National Post Pulver reveals that the NHL did try to add contract term limits into the CBA but failed. Meaning: there are none.

"We are extremely disappointed that the NHL has decided to reject the contract of Ilya Kovalchuk. The contract complies with the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. We will have no further comment until the process outlined in the CBA is complete."

The Devils have officially released a statement from Lou Lamoriello about Ilya Kovalchuk's rejected signing.

The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) released the following statement today regarding the rejection of Ilya Kovalchuk’s contract with the New Jersey Devils by the National Hockey League (NHL): "The NHLPA is currently analyzing the basis upon which the NHL rejected the contract between the New Jersey Devils and Ilya Kovalchuk. We are evaluating the options available to us under the terms established in the CBA. The NHLPA will have no further comment at this time." – Jonathan Weatherdon, NHLPA Spokesperson

This is the first statement that has been released from the NHLPA about the Kovalchuk contract rejection. Right now, it's just analysis about the contract's rejection.

Ilya Kovalchuk will make his decision today (for sure, this time!).

According to Jay Grossman, Kovy will FINALLY make up his mind. If any news breaks, please link to someone credible like Gulitti, Chere, Helen Elliot/Rich Hammond, Grossman, TSN Insiders, Lebrun or even Dmitry Chesnokov from Puck Daddy, Not Hockeybuzz. WE MEAN IT!

Sources confirmed to ESPN.com yet again Saturday that the Kings will make an offer to the prized jewel of a thin market, star winger Ilya Kovalchuk. They tried to acquire his rights this weekend from New Jersey, but were denied since the Devils remain interested in trying to re-sign the Russian star.

"John and I have had this conversation and no one should read into anything," Lamoriello said. "Jamie Langenbrunner is our captain. John feels strongly on that. I feel strongly on that and I’d like to put that to rest."

Gulitti has some quotes from the John Maclean press conference. For all the people who wanted Langenbrunner to have the Captaincy stripped from Langs, it's not going to happen.

My name is Mark Melhorn and I'm the sports editor at The Press of Atlantic City. I'm writing because we are putting together a story about Devils fans who live in southern New Jersey and are sick and tired of living in Flyers country. I was wondering if you know of anyone who lived in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland or southern Ocean counties that would be die-hard Devils fans that we could talk to for the story. Any help you could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Well, Devils fans in South Jersey, how about it? Want to have your pro-Devils voice heard in a local newspaper? Want to explain to Mr. Melhorn what it's like to support Jersey's Team while surrounded by Pylon Supporters? If so: Send me an e-mail, tell me what county you're in, and I'll pass along Mr. Melhorn's contact information and you two can go from there. Please be respectful at all times, you're not just representing ILWT but the Devils fanbase as a whole. Thanks to Mr. Melhorn for letting me make his request publicly. I trust that we'll be able to help him out.
