Another Forbes Story

So according to this story the recent buyout included, $260M in assumption of debt ($160M Syndicate loans, $100M in unidentified debt attributable to "NHL, Barraway, MSG, Prudential, on nearby land.") But according to Gullitti NHL wasn't loan, but advance not requiring repayment; MSG contract was securitized (not a loan) and we might presume the same about Prudential (although I hadn't heard of debt to Prudential). Knowing that Barroway debt was $30M, there is about $70M in debt that was never identified, unless that is the "nearby land," which I can't imagine. Might this include money owed to Chambers from the January buyout by Vanderbeek? Are any of these numbers reliable being that they came from a source that just two weeks ago reported that an NHL buyout was imminent?

I know we don't like Hockeybuzz, but one writer is rooting for us...

...and he's completely right. We've been a good possession team, have augmented that with a few good possession players, improved our goaltending and spread out our scoring more. I'm concerned about overall age and speed, but I'm feeling really good about this year, honestly. Not "we're gonna win the cup" good, but good nonetheless.

Philly Fans and writers just don't know when to quit

OK, so they want to set a record for number of people watching paint dry. Sean Leahy just couldn't leave it at that. His parting shot" "So if you have a couple of hours to kill on Monday, go watch some dudes and dudettes paint lines and logos on ice and discover what watching the mid-'90s New Jersey Devils was like."

Josh Harris, Builder of Worlds

I just got back from Newark earlier today, and on the way I began to catch up on New Jersey Devils news on my Star Ledger Smart Phone app. The amazing (if I may say so myself) article about Josh Harris that I linked to above was published a minute after midnight Eastern Time this morning. I'll leave you all to read it for yourselves, but the fact that he has Jersey Roots as his father's family is from Newark, NJ, amongst other factors, definitely makes it difficult not to like Josh Harris.

League to potentially take over control of the Devils

If a new owner isn't found in time for the new season the NHL will need to take over operation of the team, according to this Forbes.com report. It looks like the JVB ownership era is at an end.

New Devils ownership?

While owning professional sports franchises in different cities is not unprecedented, it is unusual. I look forward to seeing how this plays out.

Devils Sign Jaromir Jagr

Jaromir Jagr agrees with Devils Updated: July 22, 2013, 11:37 AM ET By Mike Mazzeo | Special to ESPNNewYork.com The New Jersey Devils have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with right wing Jaromir Jagr, a source told ESPN.com. Jagr, 41, will help New Jersey attempt to fill the massive void created when Ilya Kovalchuk stunningly elected to retire from the NHL and play in his native Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. Jagr had 16 goals and 19 assists in 45 games for the Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars this past season. He recorded 10 assists in 22 playoff games with Boston.
