New Jersey Devils at St. Louis Blues - Gamethread #54
The Time: 7:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (31-19-3) vs. the St. Louis Blues (31-14-7)
The Previews: My preview from much earlier this morning is right here, please check it out if you haven't yet. For an opposition point of view, please check out this preview by CrossCheckRaise over at St. Louis Game Time.
A Song for Tonight: Originally formed in Edison, Mutiny Within was a metal band that put out one full album, got some notice, but ran into other issues that forced their end in 2011. In any case, their self-titled album stacked up pretty well against other modern metal acts with their power metal-ish, metal-coreish ways. This track is a good example as any: "Reflections" Say what you want about the song, but the vocalist is pretty good at going from singing to straight up growling.
Gameday Info: The Devils aren't going to risk Martin Brodeur and his twisted ankle at all tonight. Tom Gulitti reported earlier this afternoon that the team has called up Jeff Frazee from Albany to serve as the backup to Johan Hedberg. Hopefully, Moose doesn't get hurt or get shelled so the backup doesn't become a concern. Though, if Moose is getting shelled, then maybe it wouldn't be a concern since the Devils would likely be losing by quite a bit. Anyway, that's the only change for the Devils' lineup for this game. Gulitti also reported that David Clarkson wasn't at this morning's skate but he will play tonight. If you wanted to see Jason Arnott tonight, then I've got some bad news. Tom Timmerman and Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported this morning that Arnott (shoulder) and Matt D'Agostini (concussion symptoms) will not play tonight due to injury. That very same post includes a projected lineup for the Blues, confirms Jaroslav Halak as their starting goaltender, and notes their record against the East this season: 10-0-2. Again, the Blues are really, really, really good.
As usual, you can use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. Please remember the rules at all times. Namely: keep your comments clean, keep them on topic, and keep them legal (read: nothing about illegal streams - no links, no discussion, no requests). Go Devils!
New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers - Gamethread #53
The Time: 7:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+2 (MSG if you want Rangers commentary for some strange reason); Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (30-19-3) at the New York Rangers (33-12-5)
The Previews: My preview from much earlier this morning is right here. Please check that out if you haven't yet. Bryan Winters has these keys to the game over at Blueshirt Banter.
A Song for Tonight: This is Fury of Five. They are a hardcore band originally from, I think, Asbury Park. They have certainly made their mark on the scene, as it were. From their second album At War with the World, this is "Takin' Respect." As they say, Jersey will not be disgraced.
Gameday Info: Oh, good grief, Cam Janssen will be in the lineup according to this post by Tom Gulitti at Fire & Ice. I can (sort of) appreciated that Janssen's amped for this game and it's not like Brad Mills (who has sent down to Albany) has been a difference maker on the fourth line, but is there any reason to believe Janssen will play more than 5 mintues tonight? Well, Ilya Kovalchuk hasn't played 25+ minutes in two games so I guess he should be good to eat the extra minutes when he's eventually double shifted. As for the Rangers, they're erring on the side of beef on defense. While Steve Eminger is available, Stu Bickel will stay in the line up as reported by Andrew Gross in this post and confirmed in this tweet by Gross.

New Jersey Devils vs. Pittsburgh Penguins - GameThread #52
The Time: 1:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG Plus; Radio - 1130 AM WBBR
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (29-19-3) vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins (30-18-4)
The Previews: Tom was on preview duty; here's his. Check out the enemies at PensBurgh.
A Song for Today:
Gameday Info: As we know, Martin Brodeur is in net today. Marc-Andrew Fleury will get his second start in as many days. Adam Henrique will also return today, though Pete DeBoer said he will see after warm-ups where he'll be placed in the lineup. Peter Harrold is out and has been sent back to Albany. There are no other changes, thus the Devils will play with the usual 6 defensemen and 12 forwards.
We are all aware that today is one of the biggest sports days in the world and it happens to involve a team locally. We understand it's on the tip of everyone's tongue. However, that game is tonight. This is a Devils blog. If you'd like to discuss the other game, please go here or here.
So please, use the comments here to discuss today's Devils game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. Please remember the rules at all times. Namely: keep your comments clean, keep them on topic, and keep them legal (read: nothing about illegal streams - no links, no discussion, no requests). Let's Go Devils!
New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers - Gamethread #51
The Time: 1:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (28-19-3) at the Philadelphia Flyers (30-14-6)
The Previews: My preview from way earlier this morning is right here, so please check that out if you haven't. Broad Street Hockey's gameday post should be up by the time you see this so go there if you want a Philly perspective.
A Song for Today: One of the more standout hardcore bands from the 1990s was Strength 691 straight out of Colonia. Why 691? Well, the band formed in June 1991, or 6/91. Yep, it's not that interesting of a story. Anyway, here's a song from their only album, Means to an End, "Foot Prints."
Gameday Info: The Devils called up defenseman Peter Harrold from Albany last night, as reported here by Tom Gulitti. Gulitti later posted that he will play which means Peter DeBoer will use seven defensemen today; Cam Janssen will sit. Adam Henrique was put on IR retroactively per Gulitti, so he could be made available as early as tomorrow. Lastly, from Gulitti's Twitter (he really does put in an excellent effort), Sergei Bobrovsky will be Philadelphia's starting goaltender.

New Jersey Devils vs. Montreal Canadiens - Gamethread #50
The Time: 7:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (27-19-3) vs. the Montreal Canadiens (19-22-9)
The Previews: My preview from much earlier this morning is right here. For the opposition's perspective, please check out Habs Eyes on the Prize.
A Song for Tonight: In the realm of indie rock, Real Estate has been making some waves. The band originally formed in Ridgewood and they just released their second album Days late last year. This is the fourth track: "It's Real." It may be early February but the song will make you feel like it's June, a month Montreal fans may be looking forward to with each passing day of this season.
Gameday Info: Tom Gulitti reported earlier this morning that while Bryce Salvador wasn't at the team's morning skate, Peter DeBoer believes he will be able to play tonight. If Salvador can't get through the pre-game skate or isn't there at all, then Matt Taormina will take his spot on the blueline. In fact, Taormina may play anyway - DeBoer said it was possible he could dress seven defensemen. If so, then expect Brad Mills to join Cam Janssen as a scratch. Considering how the fourth line has been this season, DeBoer might as well go with seven defensemen - Taormina can do more than the twelfth forward on the roster. As for the Canadiens, RDS reporter Renaud Lavoie tweeted Montreal's expected forward lines for tonight - as well as noting that defenseman Chris Campoli won't play.

New Jersey Devils vs. New York Rangers - Gamethread #49
The Time: 7:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (26-19-3) vs. the New York Rangers (31-12-4)
The Previews: My preview from way, way earlier this morning is right here. As for the opposition point of view, over at Blueshirt Banter, Joe Fortunato has called this game a "must win" and Bryan Winters has keys to the game.
A Song for Tonight: With three straight losses, or non-wins to be precise, and only one goal scored in each game, the Devils are in some kind of funk. What's the solution for funk? The Funk. Thankfully, Plainfield's own George Clinton has given the world all kinds of it. Here's one of his more legendary songs with Parliament: "Flashlight" originally from the 1978 album "Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome." The song became a #1 single back then and features Bernie Worrell making the most out of his synthesizers. At least if the Devils aren't winning, there's a reason to groove.
Gameday Info: The New Jersey Devils will welcome Andy Greene and Brad Mills back into the lineup along with debuting Steve Bernier. Tom Gulitti reported earlier today that the defenseman and fourth liner will return from injury and the right winger will play on the third line tonight. Matt Taormina and Cam Janssen will be scratched to make room for Greene and Mills. Gulitti also reported that Martin Biron will start for the Rangers tonight. That's right, Henrik Lundqvist isn't starting. Biron's numbers are still high and unsustainable, so the challenge remains. Andrew Gross has the projected lines and pairings for the Rangers in this post at Ranger Rants. If there's a particular pairing I'd like to see the Devils pick on, then it is Michael Del Zotto and Anton Stralman just at a first glance. They're not good defensively; besides, Stralman couldn't make the Devils in camp for a reason.

New Jersey Devils vs. Buffalo Sabres - Gamethread #48
The Time: 7:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (26-19-2) vs. the Buffalo Sabres (19-24-5)
The Previews: John has a preview up for tonight's game, which can be found here. While Die By the Blade doesn't have a preview up, they have a solid write up about the team's struggles.
A Song For Tonight: The opposition hails from Buffalo. I'm not too familiar with the Buffalo Metal scene, but a very notable band hails from nearby St. Catharines- Alexisonfire. Tonight's song, Waterwings (And Other Poolside Fashion Faux Pas) comes from their best album, their self-titled first Album.
Gameday Info: Devils Defenseman Peter Harrold is going to make his debut tonight as the 4th line winger (seriously, it beats Janssen there) and will wear #10. The Lines and pairings should be the same outside of that. As for the Sabres, Defenseman Christian Erhoff will return to the lineup tonight per John Vogl of Sabres' Edge. Additionally, Robyn Regehr will return tonight as well. Ryan Miller looks like he will be the starting goalie tonight for the Sabres.
Talking Red: In case you missed it, this week's episode features former Devil Bobby Holik talking about several different issues with the Devils, such as Zach Parise's contract as well as Ilya Kovalchuk and Jacques Lemaire.

New Jersey Devils vs. Philadelphia Flyers - Gamethread #47
The Time: 1:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (26-18-2) vs. the Philadelphia Flyers (27-14-4)
The Previews: My preview from way earlier this morning is right here. For the opposition's point of view, Broad Street Hockey should have something up by now.
A Song for Today: Folly was a hardcore band with some ska parts and a whole lot of screaming. This track was a jam back in the early part of the last decade. You may have even heard it on WSOU (and probably still do from time to time). From their first full release Insanity Later, this is "Please Don't Shoot the Piano Player, He's Doing the Best He Can." It pretty much sums up Folly's sound in my opinion.
Gameday Info: Rich Chere reported this morning that Mattias Tedenby was sent down to Albany and Alexei Ponikarovsky will wear #12 on the Devils. I suppose Nick Palmieri's not coming back anytime soon. It's still unclear whether Ponikarovsky will be in the lineup today, though. If not, expect Steve Zalewski at left wing on the third line. According this morning's article from Sam Cardici at Philly.com, the Flyers will keep Claude Giroux, Jaromir Jagr, and Scott Hartnell together; Zac Rinaldo is expected to return to action, and Ilya Bryzgalov will start for the Flyers.

New Jersey Devils vs. Boston Bruins - Gamethread #46
The Time: 7:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG+; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (26-17-2) vs. the Boston Bruins (29-13-1)
The Previews: My preview from way earlier this morning is right here. For an opposition point of view, Stanley Cup of Chowder has this short preview.
A Song for Tonight: It's time for some somewhat-sludgy, angry, raspy-vocals-yelling-their-lungs-out hardcore. This is "Blinders" by Rorschach. I expect tonight's game to be as grinding and loud as this song.
Gameday Info: Tom Gulitti reported this morning that Adam Henrique will play tonight. Yay. He'll center Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise. In that same report, Mattias Tedenby and Eric Boulton will be scratched. Boo and whatever, respectively. As for the Bruins, they'll get Brad Marchand and Rich Peverley back in the lineup as expected. Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe confirmed that in this article previewing tonight's game.
As usual, you can use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. Please remember the rules at all times. New Jersey Devils vs. Winnipeg Jets - Gamethread #45
The Time: 7:00 PM EDT
The Broadcast: TV - MSG; Radio - 660 AM WFAN
The Game: The New Jersey Devils (25-17-2) vs. the Winnipeg Jets (21-19-5)
The Previews: My preview from way earlier this morning is right here. For the opposition's perspective, canadian texan has this preview over at Arctic Ice Hockey.
A Song for Tonight: Tom, possibly sarcastically, suggested some E-Town Concrete. Sure. Here's "Battle Lines" from The Renaissance. I couldn't tell you why that's the title of the album.
Gameday Info: I guessed wrong in my preview, Chris Mason will get the start tonight. Per acasser in the comments of the preview, Brian Munz of TSN reports that Mason will start back-to-back after shutting out the Senators last night. Also: since the Jets are playing the same lineup, that means Blake Wheeler won't play tonight. Speaking of players who won't play tonight, Adam Henrique will be held out of tonight's game as reported by Rich Chere this morning. While he's improving, the team is taking a cautious approach with the rookie. Expect David Clarkson to play with Patrik Elias and Petr Sykora; while Dainius Zubrus takes Henrique's spot in between Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk.
Two Devils will return to the New Jersey lineup tonight. According to this report by Chere, Jacob Josefson will play in between Ryan Carter and Mattias Tedenby; and Brad Mills will be at right wing on the fourth line with Eric Boulton and Steve Zalewski. I'm curious as to how Josefson will perform in his first NHL game since breaking his clavicle in October. As for Mills, he has to be better than Cam Janssen, right?
As usual, you can use the comments in this post to discuss tonight's game before, during, and after it happens until the recap is up. Please remember the rules at all times.
