New Jersey Devils Podcast Talking Red: Season 2, Ep. 23 - Ken Daneyko Interview Part 1

On Sunday, David Sarch, Tom, and myself got together to discuss a short and successful week in New Jersey Devils hockey for Talking Red. Two wins, two different performances, and many more than two points were made about each game. On Monday morning, David and I had the honor and privilege to interview New Jersey Devils legendary defenseman and current broadcast analyst on MSG (pre-game, intermission, post-game) and NHL Live contributor, Ken Daneyko. The interview is split up into two parts: this first part focuses what Daneyko thinks of the team so far.

With the usual discussion and the first part of the Daneyko interview, this week's episode is 58:49 long and 53.84 MB large. You can find Talking Red either directly at the TR website, on iTunes, on Stitcher, or you can listen to a stream of this week's episode after the jump. Here's David's description:

On this week's episode, David, John and Tom discuss all things Devils including wins against Buffalo and Anaheim. Later in the episode, David and John have the pleasure of interviewing Devils legend Ken Daneyko. The first half of the interview is featured in this week's episode, which includes discussion on the current team. They focus on the play of Ilya Kovalchuk, Adam Larsson, "energy players," and the trade deadline.

Special thanks to Ken Daneyko for taking the time for our questions and his in-depth answers. David for running the show and for having me on. You can your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. After the jump is a stream of this week's episode:

New Jersey Devils Podcast Talking Red: Season 2, Episode 22

Earlier today, David Sarch, Ryan Lucas, and myself got together to discuss a rather busy week of New Jersey Devils hockey on this episode of Talking Red. Four games in seven days is quite a lot to go through, but we touched on each game and hit what we felt were the important points from each game. We also found a little time to discuss team needs for the upcoming NHL trade deadline, a few players and their performance as of late, and the short week ahead.

This week's episode is 40.02 MB large and 43:43 long. As usual, you can get it here directly from the Talking Red website, you can get it at iTunes or Stitcher, or you can continue on after the jump for a stream of the show. Here's David description of this week's episode:

In this week's episode David, John and Ryan discuss a week which saw the Devils defeat more of their rivals, controversial calls and much more. They also talk about the play of Andy Greene, Petr Sykora, and Jacob Josefson, as well as the upcoming trade deadline.

Thanks to David for running the show and for having me on. You can your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. Again: after the jump is a stream of this week's episode:

Talking Red Season 2, Episode 21 - Back to Normal Format

On Sunday, David Sarch and Tom Stivali got together to discuss the recent week of New Jersey Devils hockey - and prior to their 5-2 win over Pittsburgh. Given that a Super Bowl took place on Sunday, we thought it best to feature it here now. In any case, wins over the Rangers, Canadiens, and Flyers are well worth discussing at any time - as were the 13 goals the Devils scored on goaltenders across all three games.

This week's episode is 43.65 MB large and 47:41 long. As usual, you can get it here directly from the Talking Red website, you can get it at iTunes or Stitcher, or you can continue on after the jump for a stream of the show. Here's David description of this week's episode.

It's back to the normal format for this weeks episode as David and Tom recap wins against the Rangers, Montreal and the Flyers. They highlight their favorite Clarkson Fall of the Week from this season, it even earns him a Bobby Abreu comparison. David and Tom also glance over Philadelphia goonery, a Kovalswing, and debate the merits of trading Parise and what would be an acceptable return.

Thanks to David and Tom for the show this week. You can your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. Again: after the jump is a stream of this week's show:

Talking Red Season 2, Episode 20 - The Devils Trivia Show

With the New Jersey Devils not present for the All Star Game and it's festivities and having only played one game last week, Talking Red decided to switch things up: a Devils-based trivia show. David Sarch emceed several games between myself and Ryan Lucas against Tony and Kristin. There were many sighs, attempts at recollection, and a lot of laughs - all for the glory of winning a puck signed by Ilkka Pikkarainen. It's different, it's light, and we all had a lot of fun. Hopefully you will while you listen on; and not only because you can use questions I got wrong to throw back in my face in the future. (e.g. HA! You didn't know current Edmonton GM/moron Steve Tambellini was a Devil player!)

This week's show is 64.29 MB large and 1:10:13 long. Here's a direct link to the show on the TR website, which is also available on iTunes and Stitcher. Here's David's description.

Since there was a lack of action this week, we decided to get together for some New Jersey Devils trivia. In the event like none others, John and Ryan took on Tony and Kristin in the battle for an Ilkka Pikkarainen signed puck. Listen in to find out who the lucky winners were.

Thanks to David, Ryan, Tony, and Kristin for their involvement and having me on. We'll be back to our normal format of discussing games and all things Devils next week. Regardless, you can still email your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. After the jump is a stream of this week's show:

Talking Red Season 2, Episode 19 - Bobby Holik Interview

Earlier today, David Sarch, Tom Stivali, and Steve Palumbo got together to discuss the recent week in New Jersey Devils hockey for this week's episode of Talking Red. That's usual and takes up the first half of this week's episode. The second half is an interview David and Tom conducted with former New Jersey Devil, Bobby Holik. Holik has always spoke his mind whether you liked it or not and he continues to do so at his new site: Holik on Hockey. He took some time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions for this very show.

The whole episode is 1:04:33 long and 59.09 MB large and you can get it directly here at the TR website or elsewhere where fine podcasts are stored (iTunes, Stitcher). Here's David's description:

On this week's episode David is joined by Tom and rookie Steve Palumbo. They talk about the three games, how poor the defense was, the injury to Henrik Tallinder, the trade for Alexei Ponikarovsky and what it means for Travis Zajac, Jacob Josefson and Mattias Tedenby. David Clarkson is awarded another David Clarkson fall of the week and special mention for Sykora and Elias for working it out. The second half of the episode is an interview with Bobby Holik. Bobby discusses his website, what it was like playing for Jacques Lemaire, Ilya Kovalchuk, the Zach Parise contract situation and so much more!

I'd like to thank Bobby Holik for taking the time out of his schedule to talk hockey for TR. You can have your say as usual: you can email your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. After the jump is a stream of this week's show:

Talking Red Season 2, Episode 18

Today, David Sarch, Tom Stivali, and myself got together to discuss the recent week in New Jersey Devils for the latest episode of Talking Red. By our overall count, this is our 50th episode. On it, we talk about the Devils' time in Alberta and Manitoba, how the team bounced back from an awful loss to kick off the week, the goaltending situation, and so much more. We even remembered to award a David Clarkson Fall of the Week. The second half of this episode focuses on the Albany Devils, as David and Tom talk about the AHL affiliate with Tracey of Thoughts Inside the Box.

The 50th episode can be downloaded directly here at the TR website and it's available on iTunes, Stitcher, and other fine places. The show is 59.16 MB large and 1:04:38 long. Here's David's description:

On this weeks episode David, John and Tom discuss the Devils last road trip. After that they award the David Clarkson Fall of the Week to a new person and preview the week ahead with special interest to how the goaltending situation will play out. The 2nd half hour of the episode is dedicated to Albany Devils talk. David and Tom interview Tracey who blogs at Thoughts Inside The Box.

Thanks to Tracey for coming onto the show. As usual, you can email your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. After the jump is a stream of this week's show:

Talking Red Live - Recorded Edition

The show went a lot better than what happened to this ref here (and to the Devils) in Calgary. (AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Jeff McIntosh)

On Tuesday evening, prior to the New Jersey Devils playing the worst first period of the season against Calgary, David Sarch, Ryan Lucas, Tom Stivali, and myself got together to do something different for Talking Red. We did a show - live. Yes, it was the halfway mark of the season and it was the appropriate time to discuss all things Devils from the first 41 games of the season. As hosted on TalkShoe, we even took some questions from some listeners in a chat room and even answered some of them. If you missed it, don't worry. David recorded the whole show and put it up at the TR website. You can download it from there, as it's 33.63 MB large and 1:30:43 long. Here's David's description:

In honor of the Devils reaching the half way point of the season we recorded a live episode. We reviewed the first 41 games, gave our rookies, player and bounce back players of the season, answered listener questions and so much more!

Thank you to all of the listeners out there who endured the first TR live show; and a big thanks to David for putting it all together and having us on. You can email your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. As usual, there's a stream of it after the jump.

Talking Red: Season 2, Episode 16, Doc Emrick Interview

This morning, David Sarch, Ryan Lucas, and myself got together to discuss the recent week in New Jersey Devils hockey on Talking Red. We talked about their 2-1-1 week; their woes against Ottawa and Boston; their successes against Florida and Pittsburgh; and talked quite a bit about the power play and the bottom six forwards among other issues. That's not all. Later this afternoon, David and Ryan interviewed legendary broadcaster and beloved New Jersey Devils play-by-play announcer Dr. Mike Emrick. As a result, this week's episode is larger than usual at 65.89 MB and 1:11:58 long. Here's the direct link to the show at the TR website; and now David's description of the show:

On this weeks episode David is joined by John and Ryan. The episode is highlighted by an interview with Mike "Doc" Emrick. He talks about some of his favorite Devils memories, how he became the announcer he is today and addresses Chico's 10 hot dog night in Montreal plus much more. The crew also talk about the 4 Devils games this week and the coaches' changes to the power play and the third and fourth line.

As usual, you can email your comments and questions to talkingred at gmail dot com, tweet them to @TalkingRed, or just leave them here in the comments of this post. We appreciate Doc taking the time out of his very busy schedule to talk hockey on Talking Red. Thank you, Dr. Emrick.

After the jump is a stream of this week's episode. Remember, Tuesday from 7:30 PM to 9 PM will be a live episode of Talking Red. Please check out this FanPost for more details.
