Today, the New Jersey Devils tendered qualifying offers to nine of their eleven restricted free agents in this offseason. In this post, I explain what will happen next and why all of these tendered offers annoy me with respect to the Devils' roster.
The NHL salary cap ceiling is projected at $64 million for the 2011-12 season, and this provides some relief for the New Jersey Devils in this offseason. However, I point out that it's only some breathing room as they will spend most of it on Zach Parise and other RFA signings.
Zach Parise still hasn't been signed yet and it's news that he could be taken to team-elected arbitration. In this post, I explain why this isn't that big of a deal right now as well as why he hasn't been signed yet.
The New Jersey Devils do not have a lot of cap space this summer and I showcase that by highlighting how much cap space it would take to sign all 6 RFAs at their the minimum qualifying offers. I also provide options for maneuverability with RFAs, which may provide some cap relief.
