Scott Wedgewood signs 3-year ELC with NJ Devils

Tom Gulitti reported earlier today that goaltender Scott Wedgewood has signed a three-year entry level contract with the NJ Devils, who drafted him in the third round of 2010. Wedgewood has played 42 games for Plymouth, a record of 28-9-2-1-5, 3 shutouts, a 91.2% save percentage, and a 2.97 GAA. . Congratulations to Wedgewood for signing his first professional contract.

New Devils Top 20 Prospects Article at Hockey's Future

Jared Ramsden has put together the latest edition of his top 20 prospects in the New Jersey Devils system over at Hockey's Future. Feel free to discuss his list in the comments.

CapGeek: Eric Gelinas signed to 3 Year Entry Level Deal with Devils

CapGeek has been informed that 2009 second round draft pick Eric Gelinas has been signed to a 3 year Entry Level Deal. It's a two-way deal, with a NHL cap hit of $690k should he make it to New Jersey. Gelinas finished his season with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the QMJHL. UPDATE: Thanks to LangsForPres in the comments, the official website reports that the Devils signed overage Kitchener Rangers defenseman Dan Kelly as well. No word yet from CapGeek on the contract, but I would think Kelly will ply his trade in the minors first since he can't go back to the OHL.

Follow Urbom, Young, and Henrique in the Memorial Cup at Puck Worlds

Philly is currently losing 3-1 after the first period as I write this. But in a few minutes, the 2010 Memorial Cup will begin! Follow the action through the new SBN blog Puck Worlds. It's not just for international hockey, but also juniors. They got a link to a webstream (may be Canada-only?); so go there and see Devils prospects tonight face-off: Alexander Urbom with tourney hosts Brandon against Harry Young and Adam Henrique of OHL champions Windsor.

Devils sign Tedenby and Josefson

While I'm pretty happy about these signings, I don't think they'll have an immediate impact. I'm glad they'll be in the system, but Josefson's still a little green to be that Centerman we need so desperately, and Tedenby.. honestly how many left-wings can one team have? Editor's Note: This is the first (and second) signing of the 2010 offseason for the New Jersey Devils. Expect more thoughts soon.

Harry Young, Adam Henrique, and Windsor Spitfires win Second Straight OHL Championship

The Windsor Spitfires followed up their 2009 championship campaign with another one in 2010. They swept the Barrie Colts tonight with a decisive 6-2 win. The Spitfires are now the first OHL team since 1991-92 (Greyhounds) to win consecutive championships. Congratulations to Windsor for the accomplishment. The playoffs were quite good for the Devils prospects on Windsor. Defenseman Harry Young only put up 1 assist and picked up 24 PIM, but the defensive defenseman was the captain of the championship team. Excellent experience for him, certainly. Adam Henrique should be receiving all kinds of praise. He finished 6th in OHL playoff scoring with 25 points, which is very good. He was fantastic at goal scoring - he put up 20 goals in 19 playoff games to finish tied with Jeff Skinner in OHL playoff scoring. Yes, 20 goals in 19 games - including a hat trick in Game 3 of the Finals. Henrique was awarded the Wayne Gretzky Award as the MVP of the OHL Playoffs. The WJCs, another OHL championship, and a playoff MVP award - 2009-10 has been superb for Henrique! Windsor's season will continue in the Memorial Cup, hosted by Brandon - featuring Devils prospect Alexander Urbom. The tournament of CHL champions and the hosts will begin on May 14. Henrique and Young join Mattias Tedenby as Devils prospects to have won championships with their teams in 2009-10. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Hockey's Future: Devils 26th Best Prospect Org.

Admittedly, Niclas Bergfors and Patrice Cormier being traded hurt their ranking. Still, the editors at Hockey's Future seem to be pretty big on Mattias Tedenby and Jacob Josefson. Incidentally, Tedenby and HV71 are playing Josefson and Djurgardens in the Elitserien Finals.

QMJHL Trade Deadline: Cormier to Rouyn-Noranda, Gelinas to Chicoutimi

Today was the trade deadline for the QMJHL and there was plenty of action. Two Devils prospects have been moved today. Canada's WJC captain Patrice Cormier is now a member of Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (23-17-2-1). He joins up with Devils prospect Jean-Sebastian Berube. Eric Gelinas has been moved as part of a three-way deal that saw him eventually end up with Chicoutimi Sagueneens (15-17-4-4).

Swedish WJC Roster Announced: Tedenby, Josefson In, No Urbom

The original link is in Swedish, but the roster itself is pretty clear by name. Congratulations to Mattias Tedenby and Jacob Josefson for being named to the roster. The links on the page send you to a PDF overview (in English) of what the player has done so far. This article at the IIHF site asks the pertinent question: "Is this the year for Sweden?" It might be with Tedenby and Josefson leading the offense. What really surprises and bothers me is that Alexander Urbom's not on the roster. Why? The WJCs will be in Saskatoon on the smaller, North America size ice. Urbom is used to that due to playing the WHL and his size would be huge positive as the smaller ice lends itself to a more physical tournament. Is he not on the roster because the Swedish defenders are that much better, or is it because he jumped to the WHL? Either way, I feel it's an omission.

NJ Devils Send Matt Halischuk Down to Lowell

Per Tom Gulitti, the New Jersey Devils moved the young winger to their AHL farm team, the Lowell Devils, today. This leaves the Devils with, well, no extra players on their roster. This tells me that Patrik Elias must be getting ready real soon for the Devils to make this move. There was no pressure to create extra space otherwise.
