Andy Greene: The Devils' Rock on Defense

Andy Greene doesn't catch a lot of buzz around the NHL for how solid he has been for New Jersey, but Devils fans should certainly be appreciative of his contributions.

Five players being overlooked

A discussion of the top five players who are not valued sufficiently by their organizations. It's written by Paul Swydan of FanGraphs. Patrick Corbin is one of the five: "Patrick Corbin, P, Arizona Diamondbacks "Last year, Corbin turned in some fairly solid work as a rookie in the Diamondbacks' rotation....it was Corbin who provided some stability to the back end of the rotation. In 17 starts he posted a 99 FIP that was nearly identical to that of rotation front man Ian Kennedy. "However, the Diamondbacks wanted to upgrade this offseason, and signed Brandon McCarthy, which bumps Corbin into a three-way battle for the fifth spot in the rotation... "Solution: Keep him in rotation until Hudson returns, then trade to contender looking for pitching help at deadline." This is part of an ESPN Insider article, so the complete article is behind a pay wall. It includes discussions of the other four players with 1+ seasons of experience, as well as a list of prospects who need to be "freed" by their clubs. Since there has been a lot of discussion about him here, I thought I'd mention that Profar is on the list of prospects.

Sean Mosley's Shooting, Jordan Williams' Rebounding, and the Assist Quest

Sean Mosley and Jordan Williams have been better than expected, but has Williams really not logged one assist this year?

Discussion: NL's Most Underrated: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

I don't understand how these managers can consider Atkins to be underrated. That said, there is hope for moving him and returning some sort of value.

If Pettitte is a fifth starter, he is without question the best fifth starter in baseball right...

If Pettitte is a fifth starter, he is without question the best fifth starter in baseball right now, given that he would be a #3 in most other teams in the game and perhaps even a #2. Put him on some of the lesser-quality teams like the Nationals, Rockies, and Pirates and he might actually be the ace. If the Yankees have a fifth starter, it sure isn’t Andy Pettitte, and if any of their starters is going to be relegated into bullpen duty, it should not be Andy Pettitte. People really need to start realizing that what he brings to the table is not a marginal upgrade over an average or replacement pitcher but rather almost the guarantee of +3.5 to +4 wins.

FanGraphs: Why No Love for Pettitte? Eric Seidman makes the case that Andy Pettitte should not be getting the Joba argument. I did not realize at all that he's already been worth a full win by FG WAR this season and has pretty much been an All-Star caliber player the last several seasons. Frankly, I just assumed there was merit to him being the 5th starter and a bullpen option. Guess I was wrong.
